Items in a category do not appear on store page

I am reorganizing some items on my store (v1.5.4) and moved a few from one product category to another. Even though the moved items and new category are active / enabled, the items do not appear on the store page. When I move the items back to the original category, they appear on the store page.

I'm sure there is a setting somewhere I am missing, but I just haven't found it.

Any suggestions?

Do the items appear in the old category after moving? Can you check the Master Categories ID for any of the products that were moved and perhaps change it to the new category? If you search the store for any of the moved items, do you get any results? If so, click on it and check the breadcrumbs to see what category path it is showing.

The items do not appear in the old category after moving. If I search the store for the moved items, they all appear in the search results. The breadcrumbs show the items are in the correct category and when I click on the category breadcrumb link, all the items I put in the new category appear.

I'm not familiar with changing the Master Categories ID and when I searched the forum for information on changing it, I only found instructions for resetting all of them (with lots of warnings), so I will need a little help with this one.

Goto edit the product in the admin. Upper left corner should be the indication of the master categories id or a dropdown to select/change it.

Although this may sound as a stupid question, but are you sure you're looking at the same categories? :smile:

Can you provide a link to your site and a name of one product that you moved, but isn't showing (please mention old and new categories as well).

I can see the product master category for each item and it is correct (the new category is shown), but there is no drop-down to change it. There are two categories I'm working with:

The items which appear on the store page are in Product Master Category 66 (Spill Spoiler)
I moved three items from Category 66 to Category 67 (Individual Caps).

One of the items I moved is the 'Spill Spoiler Splash' cap, ID 208. You can see all three items I moved at /store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=67

What template is this? I don't see any menus. When you reset the template to the classic green do you see categories menus?

Could be as simple as going to "admin" -> "configuration" -> "layout settings" and setting "Main Page - Opens with Category" back to 0. Or might require more searching if the template contains hard coded changes to show category 66.

As for the no product / category navigation... Take a look at "admin" -> "tools" -> "layout controller". You can enable / disable various items such as a "category" sidebox to provide additional navigation. If the settings appear to do nothing, support may have been removed from your template.

Most of the "great" templates / themes for Zen Cart include added support allowing you to edit the "main navigation"... If yours has support for this, I'd recommend adding some additional entries to allow for better navigation. If not, can always just edit the header template directly.

Now you got me totally confused. :blink:

You're saying that you moved "Spill Spoiler Splash Cap" (p_id 208) from category 66 TO category 67 along with two other products. And then, when you go to category 67, you see those 3 products there. In other words, the products ARE showing exactly where you put it. So... Uhm... What am I missing here? :lookaroun

lhungil, that's it! I had the "Main Page - Opens with Category" set to show category 66 and when I moved the three items to category 67, they no longer appeared. A quick change and now all the items appear correctly.

Balihr, just so you don't think I've lost my mind... The only way I could get to the Category 67 items was to use the search box to find one, then follow the breadcrumb link to the category 67 page, which is the URL I put into my earlier post. Without that direct link or searching for an item in category 67, there would be no way for a customer to find the Category 67 page.

Makes sense - you were looking at the home page and not the category page... That didn't cross my mind. :) When you go to URL/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=66 (or 67), everything seemed fine so it got me confused. :smile:
