Need help with shipping

mikeel100:

So, the remaining question I have is:

Do products enter the ups.php one at a time or in bulk?

Thanks.

The entire order is sent to UPS at one time. It's broken out into effectively the weight and addresses.

This will work if all of your products in the order are coming from the same address, effectively.

However it won't work if you have an order with 2 different Origin Zip Codes

Re: Need help with shipping

Do not use this code yet...it changes the origin zip one step too late.

I have to find somewhere to put it before the ups module is called to evaluate pricing.

As it is right now, the admin zip origin does not change when adding a product to the cart. Once you open the shopping cart, the admin shipping origin changes but the ups module picks up the last zip origin that was in admin.

Where, oh where, is the right place to put the code???

Ouch...

Products have to be evaluated one at a time somewhere in the process for flat rate, free shipping, per item, per unit, etc. I want to pull the all order data into ups for line by line evaluation and shipping costs.

If there was a way to pass the product info, for each product in the order, to the ups module, then the entire ups module could be surrounded by a foreach(products in the order) to evaluate the products independently.

Of course, some custom coding would be required to bring the totals back together at the end of the ups module.

Just thinking out loud...maybe some clarity will come.

I appreciate your help!

Re: Need help with shipping

I just realized, the ups module is not native to the basic zencart program.

What php file calls the ups module?

That is where I need to start the custom coding...I believe.

Re: Need help with shipping

We managed to install the module, but in the end it worked with weight, not with general attributes. Thank you for help anyway.

Does anyone know if there is module where I could put handling fee for certain items, but it would count the fee only once?

For example:
Customer orders two of item X, one item Y and three item Z. X has fee of 2£, Y none and Z 5£. The total handling fee would be 5£, not 9£.

Re: Need help with shipping

Not sure...but, have you tried playing with the tax classes and per xxxx shipping modules that come with Zencart?

Create separate tax classes for x, y, and z.

Assign shipping cost by tax class.

I am pretty sure there is a clone module for per unit and weight...

Set your product weight to zero...

Hope this helps.

Re: Need help with shipping

Miru,

Sorry, I forgot to mention to set the shipping fee to per order.

I am also pretty sure you will have to customize code somewhere to handle the example you gave.

I will keep my eyes open for an answer to your question while I am going through the shipping files. If, I find a place to help, I will post here.

Good luck.

Re: Need help with shipping

It sounds rather complicated as items are already in three different tax class. But I will check if I can create something with this.

Nothing simple about shipping...took me 4 weeks to get mine doing what I wanted(sort of). Ajeh was a huge help.

Are the 3 tax classes for the sizes and weights you mentioned earlier?

Well, not sure where to go from here.

It is looking like you need a custom line of code somewhere...I'll keep my eyes open while I'm working on my multiple shipping origin code.
