Is there an app to allow the attribute choice to change price before checkout?

Hello,

Title almost says it all.

When I click an attribute on product page that adds value to the price, on some carts it automatically adds to the price before having to add product to the cart where adjusted price is then shown.

That is what I want to do is to allow shopper to click an attribute and have that price auto calcualte/show before he clicks to add to cart where it now shows increase from attribute.

Is there an app or addon that will do this or am I just missing something in the program that already allows this to work like I want? I did check a few ZenCart sites and didn't see any that did.

I read page after page of search results here to avoid having to ask and even bought the ebook manual for the cart.

I will say that after 2 weeks of trying cart after cart and giving my server's help techs a total headache restoring things, I have found that ZenCart is about the best around paid or for free.

I am going to try to set up affiliate system also if anyone has a reccomendation on that I would love to hear as well.

Are you seriously though using ZC. 1.3.9e? As in 2010? That plugin is not considered compatible with 1.3.9 (not to say it couldn't work as haven't tried.).

Re: Is there an app to allow the attribute choice to change price before checkout?

I have had a terrible week.

I tryied many many carts this week as well as affiliate programs and am so glad I found Zencart.

I got the site up and running and found a few problems I do not like but I can work with it.

One being the non calculating of price before checkout [which I will use the just now reccommended addon to fix, thanks :)].
Another is the absence of a backup button for database. There are many notations about backing up but i found no instructions on how to do it.
And the other is the sequence of emails that the order produces in admin area.
It seems more appropriate to me to have them:
Pending
Processed
Shipped
Delivered
Update

than like they are:

Pending
Processing
Delivered
Update

I can work with that as I probably have my idea of Processing mixed up with shipping????

Back to the point tho..................... I am worried about losing my database in the upgrade. With some of the other carts....... There was just no way it seemed to recover data from old version to the new. I sooo wish I could mention the name of the cart too :)

I will try it on my test site and see what happens.

Many thanks,
Mike

PS Sorry for delay responding but I had a severe problem getting past the captha guards here. I could not get a 3 number captha to go thru which made me seriously doubt that I had any of my remaining 6 brain cells working.............. remember it takes at least 2 to keep one's vital signs active.

For what it's worth (FWIW), ZC will calculate when looking at the shopping cart which typically is one step before the actual checkout... The suggested plugin will though change the display values on the screen in real time

Another is the absence of a backup button for database. There are many notations about backing up but i found no instructions on how to do it. Well if one steps back and looks at the process of installing and operating ZC, the instructions indicate that there is some form of expectation to have some basic knowledge of how to work with a database... It is not a requirement as one can always ask questions here, but... The general thought is 1) knowing how to access the database in order to export it and then later import it if necessary; however..... There is a plugin Backup MySQL plugin that handles this and import/restore if necessary..

These aren't exactly email sequences, but they are modifiable in the admin area to suit your liking/business... Please remember that the core code is written from the perspective of supporting the largest masses with the ability to modify to suit individual needs... There does appear to be a few things hard-coded like in using PayPal whatever the value of 2 is described as is a hard-coded default for some functions/actions... But that aside, once you have determined your preferred organization and business operational process then add to that list if ya' like. :)

Generally speaking, you won't lose your database unless after doing something significantly wrong you also lose your backup(s). :) The upgrade process (perhaps best described here) does not go and lose data, in fact it is written to maintain all of the ZC data (meaning core data) with the expectation that other plugins have some form of upgrade process if one is necessary in a sense independent of the core code/database upgrade/rebuild...

As far as delays, a large majority of people here are offering their public support as they can, when they can, if they can, if they want to, when they want to.... Sure some issues are more challenging and interesting desired to be resolved quickly, others well... Up to the individual with the issue to try to do their part.

So, all said and done, hope that you have some more tools in your toolkit now to get through it... Good luck! :)

Re: Is there an app to allow the attribute choice to change price before checkout?

Well i actually am now a proud owner of a ZenCart 1.5 cart!

I did have to redo everything but it was mostly cut and paste from old version of store i kept up in case.
The Dynamic Price addon is JUST WHAT I WANTED!

It seems to work great and makes all the difference in the world I think to shopper satisfaction of store.

It does have a few glitchs when clicking link in sidebar as a shopper would think that it should show the attributes they bought but what it seems to really be doing is just redirecting to the stock product listing and I am assuming that it does not affect the shopping cart total.

All in all I can not tell you how satisfied I am with this cart.

I think my only other aggravation is misclicking a tab in admin and having the alternate page open :)

Many thanks for the help fellas.
Mike

Are you talking about the page that shows up with every option available from the admin menu when you clickthe heading of one of the drop down menus?

If so, what may be one persons aggrivation is another's happiness... Sometimes and depending on the device being used this is the only truly functional way to navigate... But if it is not something you need to use, you'll learn to not click on it eventually and that nuisance will be something of the past...

Or if it bothers you enough you could always comment out the link part of the header menus.m. Welcome to ZC, where if you don't like how something works, you can change it to suit your business needs. :)

I see your point!

It is usefull.. I think it is the color difference that shocks my old eyes... when the pages switch. Actually it is better than clicking all of the top links. I see in 1.5 that the links are listed different too....... They were all in a list one above the other which made you scroll.... In 1.5 they could use more space between them I think or a divider tho. Note to self: find template and add some "&anp" or something like that :)

I just can not beleive I did not try this cart first.... I think the admin area looked a little to technical to me as i did look at it before actually diving in.

I still have lots to learn with adding products thru sql a priority.

And did I mention the community here???? It is a real live community........... This thread is an example of the support available.. In less than a few days [not counting the days I couldnt login in due to captha problems] I had my answers and am on my way to opening my store and product line!

Thanks,
Mike

Adding product by "sql", may I suggest EasyPopulate 4. Uses OpenOffice as a spreadsheet to help mass import.there is also Apsona last I knew...
