Upgraded Database from 139h to 154/ Store and Admin is Blank

I have upgraded the database from 139h to 154.

Now both the store and admin pages are blank. I have tried looking under /logs to see debug info when trying to access both but there are no debug files on it.

I am not sure how to fix it without knowing what is going on when I am trying to access both files.

PHP 5.4, on new server.

The store files are all new install 1.54. I cleaned up the database from 139 to remove any tables not associated with the original store. Instead of hitting install, I did an upgrade instead so that the database is upgraded but the store files are all 1.54 as I said.

Is there any other way I can see what is preventing me from viewing both pages?

I have tried this:

Made sure the logs folder is writable yes

I have not deleted the zc_install folder. If I try to run the upgrade again, it tells me that I already have a database that is 1.54.

I did an upgrade instead so that the database is upgraded but the store files are all 1.54 as I said.
You should have installed it first - then import your current DB - then re-run zc_install to upgrade the DB

Ok, so I went ahead and installed the new zencart which wiped out my database.

Now I am able to see my store front but when I try to access my admin, this is the error I get:

[09-Nov-2015 16:01:04] PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STATIC in /address here/includes/classes/class.admin.zcObserverLogEventListener.php on line 118

(the address here is the actual path to zencart which I removed for privacy reasons)

This is a new zencart with wiped out database. I have not removed the zc_install yet since I will be importing my old database then doing the upgrade again after I have inspected both store and admin are working ok.

So I googled the error and it seems that the server is using an old php? Although this is Blue Host and it shows that they are currently using php 54.

But I went ahead and did the work around making some code change on line 118.

I got in, but now something very strange is on screen. It just shows the back end with zencart, no menu, nothing, nada.

There are no error logged into the log file.

Any idea what is going on?

I believe one of the other identified issues posts in this thread helps with the issue. It would appear that your system is currently running PHP 5.2.17. If your cpanel says otherwise perhaps there is something further that needs to be done for the store to see a higher PHP version.

Effectively yes.... Would suggest uploading the zc_install folder again as historically have seen that one or more files in it have either been altered or removed as part of the original use... (Also is part of the described instructions of: http://www.zen-cart.com/entry.php?3-How-do-I-rebuild-my-site-on-the-new-version-instead-of-upgrading)

There are other factors that might affect the install/database upgrade... It would be my suggestion that if this next "step" doesn't appear successful, that you not do anything extreme. At that point would simply want to troubleshoot/investigate/identify. If all else has been properly performed then there ought to be little to be done.

Remember that credentials will be associated with the "old" database. At the time of import the database will be of ZC 1.3.9h waiting to be updated to 1.5.4.

Is the 1.3.9h store still up, operational, and operating?

Yes, the production site 1.3.9h is up and running on a separate server.

Update on php.

So I made the necessary changes and contacted support for BlueHost and complained about it.

Just got an email back saying that I WAS running php 5.2 even if my cpanel is stating 5.4. Huh! So anyway they changed it to php 5.4 and I have since changed all the coding back and admin is running ok.

So when in doubt, contact your server support.

I am not sayng that you need to do this now, but understand that you should be treating this current attempt as a trial run and not your official upgrade. As long as your "old" store is open, it is collecting data. That data should be incorporated into the "new" live store... The only way to do that is to temporarily put the store in maintenance mode (when sure that the files are as desired) and associate the old database data with the new store, update the data then put the store in operation under the new data/files...

But... As I said, not saying need to do that now... Take good notes about what you're doing and be able to reproduce it successfully a second time (or third) so that the actual upgrade of the live site goes as smoothly as possible.

Also need to look into what it takes for your site to use PHP 5.4 or higher, but don't swap between the two until ready to commiit to iit (new store).

Glad you were able to get PHP updated. Your live site may now have issues though as it is not designed to work on that version. There are some temporary file patches that can be put in place if necessary. DrByte posted something about it and maybe it can be found again, but try to finish the upgrade as quickly as you can.

So I found this post/thread, but it relates to keeping ZC 1.5.1 operational while forced to use a higher PHP versionand in the process of upgrading the store. https://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?218424-v1-5-1-and-PHP5-5-or-5-6&p=1292812#post1292812

But, if the version of PHP remains at 5.2.17 (would be surprised if 5.2.7 was the current version.) Then at least ZC 1.5.4 can be installed (patches available at: http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?215694-Known-Bugs-%28and-fixes%29-with-v1-5-4 related to PHP 5.2.17 use.) Some upgraded plugins may work still, but others may not until the php version is also upgraded... At any rate if the database (core data of the store) can be upgraded to ZC 1.5.4 then at least a skeleton site can be operational if need to shift to the higher php version before fully complete...

The server has php 5.2.17

I have installed 5.3 but the admin page is blank. The catalog shows up fine

I did this
