Upgrading from 1.5.1 to 1.5.4 clarification of process please
I want to use the 'rebuild' site method to upgrade from 1.5.1 to 1.5.4 but need some help - mainly regarding database upgrade.
- the main reason for concern is that in my current 1.5.1 site(s) I have an add-on currently that does not work 100% (image slide in template won't work) and one that doesn't work at all but creates error logs - both issues are SQL file issues (loaded > deleted> won't reload) however I have put up with it.
- now I want to update to 1.5.4 but have concerns about database upgrade once I have built the 'new site' - will SQL errors currently in existing database be carried across to new database overriding the SQL files from these add-on modules in question? ... do I need to find and delete these faulty SQL lines from the existing database first?
Also do I have the upgrade process correct here??
- create new folder
- create new data base
- upload ZC 1.5.4
- upload add-on modules and template currently used in existing 1.5.1 site (and any other file modifications)
- upload images to new site from existing site
- import database from existing site to database in new site
- test new site (which is now a complete rebuild of existing site, however now 1.5.4)
- if all is OK and new site functions fully, then ....... replace ALL files in old site with ALL files from new site ?? (after having made full back up of existing site)
Maybe 6 and 7 should be reversed?? Should 6 above be a database 'Upgrade' of existing site instead - if so, how exactly is that done? (doing this would negate step 8 in my list, right?)
cheers,
Mike
I have read this FAQ on the subject of upgrading via site rebuild and get the gist but it's dialogue isn't quite simple enough for me, i.e. follow the bouncing ball, step by step, simple(r) language ... sorry DrByte, no offence intended - https://www.zen-cart.com/entry.php?3-How-do-I-rebuild-my-site-on-the-new-version-instead-of-upgrading
