Move my customers from a 1.3.8 installation to a 1.5.4 install

Hi

My 1.3.8 was hacked (i've been lazy over the years) and whatever did it keeps enabling the Offline Credit Card Processing. For other reasons too i've basically decided i'm going to scrap it and i've installed a new 1.5.4 store and configured it on a new database.

Is it possible to transfer my customers over to the new install by using PHPMyAdmin? Will the passwords remain intact?

You should follow the upgrade FAQ and import your complete database and then upgrade it

If you still have a copy of the database, two things could be done. Since you have rebuild the software side, you could upgrade the database side so that you have now all that you had then. Or you could do the upgrade of the database and then you could transfer the contents applicable just for the customers. Yes, depending on the "process" used (mostly related to PHP versions involved) customer passwords can be maintained...

Re: Move my customers from a 1.3.8 installation to a 1.5.4 install

I have 1.51. I am going to install the brand new version of ZenCart (unless there is going to be a newER version coming out soon). I, also, want to transfer my products (and customers) to the new ZenCart install. I'm not exactly sure how/what I need to do in order to upgrade database and/or transfer it from my old site to the new install. Could one of you point me in the right direction please? Is the link that Kobra posted the link I need, or is there something more simple? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Generally speaking that is the "easiest" path to follow. Take note of the first link in the article referenced by kobra. Typically that article on How to rebuild the site on the new version instead of upgrading is actually straight forward if you don't try to overthink things... If you cut corners looking for an "easier" method you are likely to do something wrong and be back asking for support which is likely to lead to doing it all over again or long delays in getting it resolved.

Ohh and current published plan is that by the end of this month that version 1.5.5 is to be released... That said, it still will be easier/better for you to have pretty much everything in place to then accept the changes that are introduced there.
