Newbie - Lots of issues.

Hi all,
I have searched and searched. Cried and cried, possibly pulled out some hair. Have even reached out to pay someone to help me figure out what is going on. So desperate but new business so totally broke too. Haven't gotten any answers. And I just can't find the answer to these two issues.

The first is somehow my configuration menu in zencart is messed up in regards to ecommerce seals and onesocial side boxes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled from scratch over FTP but can't get it to fix. I have checked SQL no errors.

The other issue I have is that images when I use easy populate 4 at first were showing up too small but now are too big. . If I go in and manually preview in zencart catalog then update it fixes it. Here is a good example that I haven't fixed yet http://www.thedragonskeep.net/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=10_5

Website is https://www.thedragonskeep.net using Zencart 1.54 and currently the stirling grand template.

God I would appreciate any help on this please.

Re: Newbie - Lots of issues.

Couple of things. The stirling grand template is not identified to be compatible with ZC 1.5.4, but that doesn't mean it can't work, just that perhaps there might be some issues.
At least one issue with "images" was recently found in the related template thread: https://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?210386-Stirling-Grand-Responsive-Template&p=1278531#post1278531 that post contains links to two separate things, but may be related or fix a problem not yet known about. :)
Some tests were requested to to be run related to EP4; however, it doesn't appear that the results were presented. That being: load an image path for a product using EP4, download the result, manually access/save the product, download the result. Compare the two downloaded files. What's the difference? Nothing? Then there probably is something else that the template has/does that needs to be addressed...

No, this is incorrect. The image "issue" is with the pop up enlarged images and there is a fix posted for this. The problem with main product image sizes is not template related.

Thanks,

Anne

Thanks Anne,
I will try the pop up issue because that is one of the issues but I was looking and am half wondering if it is a issue with java or something. Have no idea but for now I will just manually fix.

Any idea where the issues with the configuration menu may be.

Thanks

EP4 is not designed to target a single product

Re: Newbie - Lots of issues.

EasyPopulate does not influence the size of images. All it does is load the FILENAME of the image, and its sub-directory location on the server (if needed). So if you have an image called "my-special-product.jpg", then that is the text string that gets parsed (stripped into) the resultant HTML page... which then re-calls that image and places it wherever it is located, onto the browser screen.

Other settings (including the original size of the image) will determine what and how it displays. Most of the settings for image sizes are in the Admin Panel, under the CONFIGURATION menu.

I generally size my main product image to the same as the admin settings - so my product images are ALL square, and are ALL 600px X 600px. I tend to compress them down as far as possible, and use a professional image editor (Photoshop) to do this. Cheap 'n Nasty image editors (lots of freeware ones on the web) just don't cut it if you want good compression, but also retain a top quality image.

I also use Image-Handler, which has an array of useful image management tools.

On the use of "Social Network" sideboxes and such like... I avoid them as much as possible. They are a distraction, and if your objective is to SELL STUFF, then you don't really want links that take your customers away from the store.

The sole purpose of a webshop is to get people to add stuff to the cart (as much as possible) and then to checkout and pay.

If they want to natter and gossip, then let them do so AFTER they have parted with cash.

I see social network sites (indeed all other elements of my organisation's Wide Web Presence) as a means of HARVESTING potential customers, and then guiding them to the webshop.

Once they are in the webshop, my key aim is to get them to leave the site through ONE PLACE ONLY - the CHECKOUT-SUCCESS page.

If they are given reason to leave through any other link, there's only a 20% chance they will return to complete a purchase.

Out-bound links on a webshop are like saying to your customer... "Bored? Why not leave this shop and go to the bar across the road where you can gossip and natter to your heart's content..."

Keep the customer's focus on making purchases... nothing else matters. Use your wider web presence to trawl them in, and then use links on these other sites to point to your products, your offers, and info that gives people a very good reason why they should be giving you a share of their wallet.

The smallest "grouping" to be able to minimize the products to download would be to pull a particular category using the dropdowns. But in truth, any download that includes the applicable product and other product details will include image path name that is in question. Once downloaded the other items can be trimmed out/ignored, but regardless of the grouping of products, repeat the process each time and just focus on the one product in question for the most part. Including other "functional" products in the download certainly gives some indication of differences in what works and what doesn't.

So, one of the odd things here and before Anne piped in I was going to download the template and see if it had any admin post processing related to the image(s), but if the template doesn't affect the image, then it is more than likely some other plugin or code that is causing your issues and it should not be IH4, though it was odd to see that IH4 didn't process the file(s) either until manually updated in the admin. Have you perchance installed some other template(s) that were either "removed" or just currently not in use? Seems like there may be some modified code or observers that are getting in the way, some how...

Re: Newbie - Lots of issues.

Schoolboy the onesocial plugin was to make it easier for people to register they can register with their social network instead of manually. I would honestly get rid of it all but am worried since configuration menu is messed up could there be another problem in database.

MC I think your on to something omg thank you. Yes I installed mobizencart before finding responsive template and had to merge, compare, edit some files I bet it is something there because didn't even try EP4 till aftewards and didn't install image handler till then so bet you money it is somewhere in that mess yay lol. But thanks at least know where it is probably coming from so glad to finally have an idea where this is probably coming from.

So may seem daunting/hard/or otherwise concerning, but seeing as there is no "upgrade" occurring that you could create/recreate the site in a sub-directory (suggest also establishing a sub-domain through your host to point to that sub-directory) and reference the same database, install all of the software that you need/want for your store that is already installed (won't need to run SQL commands because the database already has the software installed), but then again, some of the plugins may not like to have already been installed... Anyways, I would say that there is/could be a relatively quick way to get to having just what you need installed, fully functional store, and hopefully the issue removed.

I'm sorry if the above is not very clear, there's so many ways to get back to what works and I'm not entirely sure what would be easiest for you. For me it depends on what all is installed and what it takes to install it.

Mc
Thanks I may try that if I can't uninstall mobizencart and find the files in my back up. That project will definitely be a last ditch effort. Really thanks for pointing me in the right direction. :-)

Re: Newbie - Lots of issues.

Hi all,
I want to thank you all so much for your help. I work full-time in addition to helping hubby with store so I ended up paying someone to fix. I found Ryan Cloke from http://www.ryancloke.com/zencart . He helped me so much and even told me where the issues were which I appreciate as a newbie learning. The first thing he fixed was to make sure EP4 would resize images after upload. The OneAll social was an issue with the install script that he fixed for me. Wanted to post an update in case anybody else has an issue. Like I said thank you everyone for you help. And I was able to fix the pop up image all on my own lol so I am slowly getting there.
Thanks
Sandria

Re: Newbie - Lots of issues.

Glad that your issues were corrected.

Still going to repeat this for anyone that comes along this thread, EP4 does not size nor resize images. It merely stores in and retrieves from the database the path location of the image as it basically relates to DIR_WS_IMAGES in includes/configure.php.

The problem with the site was shown to exist by using EP4, but EP4 does not (nor is there an expectation for a fully ZC compliant site/template to) "modify" images.
