Site unreachable after php upgrade on Bluehost, help needed

Making the correction from static to self in line 108 returns the login facility but then I get a ZenCart admin which is essentially blank except for the logos and does not have any control buttons available. What a mess, considering that I started out with a clean 1.5.4 version install and haven't altered the configuration settings. Almost as bad as when Windows Vista came out! I might try a clean install of 1.5.5 but am seriously considering to moving to javascript instead for providing store functions.

Re: Site unreachable after php upgrade on Bluehost, help needed

There are other patches in the same thread if that one worked. (http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?215694-Known-Bugs-%28and-fixes%29-with-v1-5-4%29.

See, even if the cpanel says 5.6, doesn't mean that what is necessary according to your host has been done for the ZC directory to see 5.6 has been done.

As to stable, anything that uses php is subject to needing upgrading when PHP changes occur... Unfortunately, the majority of upgrades in the last 3-4 years have been needed to support the change in the support software of ZC and the ZC team has done a lot to stay up with those changes. ZC 1.5.5 is compatible with PHP 7.0 (latest known PHP version), is the only eCommerce software that is certified for the business it does, and has a significant support group. The fact that the store did well all these years without upgrade?! Well that's a testament to it's sound structure, but also a bit of working on borrowed time.

So the issue above with the blankish screen, also check: http://www.zen-cart.com/content.php?124-blank-page

It may also be a admin user assigned to correct user group issue that is addressed in zC 1.5.5 and was a result of older plugins/software.

You must be doing something incorrectly as this is not supposed to be this hard

You can view a test install of v1.5.4 **HERE**

Forgot to mention this little tidbit. To see what version of PHP ZC is "seeing", in the folder for the store, create a file of your chosen name (please don't post it and do not call it something obvious) that has the following content. Once created, try to access it and should be shown what PHP version your system is setup to present to ZC.

<?php echo phpnfo();

FWIW all the issues ZC v154 had with PHP 5.2 are fixed in v155

Re: Site unreachable after php upgrade on Bluehost, help needed

Did a fresh install of version 1.5.5 which completed without errors. Shop is reachable via its url. However, login is not but returns "[an error occurred while processing this directive]" - I have removed the zc_install folder and set the permissions of the configure.php files to 644. Old problem replaced by a new one???

<?php echo phpnfo(); ``` Wondered what was wrong but found that phpnfo above should have read phpinfo. This confirms version 5.6.17

What's the URL?
Where exactly are you seeing that error? Is it in a message generated by Zen Cart? Or is it an ajax/javascript popup by your browser?
Any errors in the /logs/ folder?

On the numerous v155 sites I've worked with I've never seen the message you quoted. So ... that suggests something unique to your server.

Re: Site unreachable after php upgrade on Bluehost, help needed

It's not a lost password issue: I don't get a login screen. The link is clicked directly from the ZC1.5.5 completion page. The link to the store works, the link to the login does not. I get the same error if I enter the URL directly either "domain/admin/" or "domain/admin/login.php". The error message is "[an error occurred while processing this directive]", which I think is how the latest Firefox version renders an http 500 internal sever error, i.e. a blank page, and it was a blank page issue I was having all along. There are no entries in the log file. I did remove the zc_install folder, so it's not that. I confirmed the php version as being 5.6.17. Somehow ZC php and the server php handling still don't tally. Talking to Bluehost is like talking to a brick wall, so they won't help. If nobody here knows either what to do, I just have to say good-bye to ZC. I emphasize: this was a clean install which completed without errors.

Re: Site unreachable after php upgrade on Bluehost, help needed

Thread has gotten a little long, and I don't recall if thisi has been done/tried yet, but did you go through the instructions of this thread: http://www.bluehostforum.com/showthread.php?32117-an-error-occurred-while-processing-this-directive

I have another "test" after that to validate that what the cPanel says about php version matches what the software in the directory says it is. A little phpinfo() script.

I'd love to know what specifically about your server is having troubles with ZC.

You still haven't shared the URL.
You haven't shared what's in the server's logs (you said ZC isn't putting anything in /logs/ but that's unsurprising if the "500" is happening before ZC even gets to bootstrap itself, so you need the server's Apache logs, accessible in your cPanel).
We can't help you if you don't provide the data to aid in investigation. Throwing a tantrum and blaming us (ie: "If nobody here knows either what to do, I just have to say good-bye") isn't going to help us help you any better.

Thank you, this link was extremely helpful as specifically related to Bluehost. Changing the folder permissions as indicated in their cpanel rather than through my ftp program did the trick and it seems I'm back in business. Glad to have got there in the end. As for DrByte, I don't throw tantrums, it was a purely factual assessment of the situation. As for urls, the forum rules state not to provide individual site links, folder names or database logins.

Anyway, thanks for everybody's help, glad I got there in the end. Now I can finally start transferring all the configurations from the old site.
