Making v154 DIY/Picaflor-Azul templates work with v1.5.5

shags38:

Have loaded modified Responsive Sheffield Blue (working 1.5.5 copy from another Zenner) in a new 1.5.5a upgrade test folder (http://treeoflife.net.au/store155a/) and get this error;

cheers,
Mike

ADDITIONALLY

when changing to responsive Classic template and selecting /admin/layout_boxes_controller/ I get this error on an otherwise blank page;
"WARNING: An Error occurred, please refresh the page and try again." url reads https://treeoflife.net.au/store155a/admin/layout_controller.php

and the storefront page looks ok EXCEPT it shows only a single column in products categories (new products shows 3 columns) - this has happened in every one of 3 separate test folder attempts.

cheers,
Mike

Not sure if this is what happened to me - but on the admin/layout_controller.php around line #68 there was an error in the file I downloaded for upgrading to 1.5.5a.

It should look like this:

/ (BOF - EDIT) ZCA Responsive Components for 1.5.5

      $db->Execute("insert into " . TABLE_LAYOUT_BOXES . "
                  (layout_template, layout_box_name, layout_box_status, layout_box_location, layout_box_sort_order, layout_box_sort_order_single, layout_box_status_single, show_box_min_width)
                  values ('" . zen_db_input($template_dir) . "', '" . zen_db_input($file) . "', 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)");

The copy I downloaded had 2 too many zeros at the end and gave me column errors. Adjustment to above fixed it for me. Hopefully this helps.

Many thanks for responding Soxo - I modified the file but still showing one column? Have you got this template actually working properly in v1.5.5a ?

cheers, Mike

The earlier posts of problems indicate that there is sql that has not been executed to add fields to the database in order to support the additional fields that are reported as missing (possibly in another file(s) not copied over) while the above image shows three columns. Is it provided to show the desired outcome or what is currently present?

I do have Responsive Sheffield Blue working in 1.5.5a. It's the url in my signature below. I switched from Winchester Black when zc 1.5.5 came out, and then modified further when zc 1.5.5a came out. Its fully functional, though I am always tweaking to add improvements - which often get me in trouble - I've never learned to leave well enough alone ;o)

This is another crap shoot - but one of the more difficult (for me) parts of adapting template to zc1.5.5a was merging the changes in #5 RBarbour post, to templates/custom/common/html_header.php. I had to fiddle back and forth with it umpteen times to get the merges in the right places. Part of the header is to do with mobile detecting and it occurs to me that maybe your site is treating your desktop as mobile when presenting single column of products. Again, this is just reaching for a guess.

But if you want to compare - here is my html_header file. Note that near the top is one block of code to do with incorporating Wordpress blog onto my site and that bit is unlikely relevant.

Re: Making v154 DIY/Picaflor-Azul templates work with v1.5.5

Oh boy, this should really not be such a pita. Can we just upload the modified responsive_sheffield_blue files somewhere once all edited and working? Can't imagine everyone wants to do all that editing. Then download the faulty layout_controller.php and discover that further editing needs to be done to the , 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0 line mistake. The sql_patch seems to be redundant too. Cannot ADD column show_box_min_width because it already exists.

We can do better. No?

I think most of those templates have been updated for v155 in the last week ... so perhaps it's already been done for you?

Just lot's of links pointing here for the solution. Plugins section still lists: Last Updated by picaflor-azul - 6 May 2015 for the Sheffield Blue.

soxophoneplayer:

It should look like this:

/ (BOF - EDIT) ZCA Responsive Components for 1.5.5

  $db->Execute("insert into " . TABLE_LAYOUT_BOXES . "
              (layout_template, layout_box_name, layout_box_status, layout_box_location, layout_box_sort_order, layout_box_sort_order_single, layout_box_status_single, show_box_min_width)
              values ('" . zen_db_input($template_dir) . "', '" . zen_db_input($file) . "', 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)");

The [GITHUB repository](https://github.com/zcadditions) has been updated to reflect the above changes.

Hi DrByte,
I concur with mydanilo. I currently see a total of zero Responsive Design Template Packages in the Plugins and Addons download section which are v155 compatible. Additionally, you may find this post from another thread on the same topic of interest.
https://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?213234-Winchester-Responsive&p=1319983#post1319983

Can you provide a link?

Thanks so much for all you do!

Re: Making v154 DIY/Picaflor-Azul templates work with v1.5.5

mydanilo:

And how can we see if it is done? I found no post to that regards. Just lot's of links pointing here for the solution. Plugins section still lists: Last Updated by picaflor-azul - 6 May 2015 for the Sheffield Blue.

Zean:

Hi DrByte,
I concur with mydanilo.

The community needs to also understand these templates are contributions done at the contributors time and expense.

I'm sure Anne would would make these FREE templates a higher priority if she had some coffee and maybe even a doughnut. :-)

Hi rbarbour, I agree! And I thank you for your contributions as well! However, my post was directed toward seeking clarity not a freebie.
I have seen posts in this thread and others which seem to be suggesting that a v1.5.5 responsive template package is available for download yet I and others can not find it.

So that is what my post was about . . . seeking help finding the "missing links." By the way I have even contacted Anne's website with the idea of paying for it but was merely redirected back to the same old v1.5.4 compatible version here.

You might also find this post interesting where I point out folks do have to make a living.

I recall seeing post by pica_flor recently on one or more of her template forums to the effect that she had submitted template(s) updated for zc 1.5.5. I presume those have to be vetted like all mods before being posted for download to the plugins page.

The phrase that contributors do so at their own time and expense does wear thin at times and is annoying when repeated to those that have already stated that they are fully appreciative of such effort - however some of us continue to get spanked for "asking" (not demanding) what is happening with templates to match ZC upgrades.

Anne contributed the modifications to the installed Responsive_Classic for the release of 1.5.5a over 6 months ago

This is not picking on Anne but moreso the 'system' - I have said it before and will likely continue to call from my soapbox - where does it leave those of us who are marketers, entrepreneurs and not coders when we are 'shackled' to a template that is not upgraded (within a reasonable time, e.g. a couple of months?) so therefore we cannot upgrade our ZC version (other than settling for the inbuilt classic). Whether it is Anne or another contributor (once there were dozens to choose from, template contributors that is) - I for one, as is the case with many others based on forum posts) do not have the confidence to attempt to upgrade Sheffield Blue or any other template to work with 1.5.5a - no I am not lazy or sitting back and waiting for things on a plate but moreso lack of ability with complex code albeit I do attempt some simpler changes.

I keep asking the question and no-one wants to answer it other than with rhetoric - where is the collaboration during development of a new ZC version with template providers, the co-ordination and the commitment back to the thousands of users of the templates that rely on them? It really places thousands of users of ZC at the behest of just a few individuals, hardly an example of 'community'.

This 'rant' is not aimed at you specifically rbarbour, not at all, you are but one of many who defend your contributor colleagues and particularly the system when those not part of the system question it.

What is too often not considered as part of the equation when such topics are raised is that peoples incomes/livelihoods are at stake - none of us have eCommerce websites just for the fun of it. All that those of us committed to ZC look for is what would be considered by non coders as some form of continuity in our business.

As I have said previously, the fact remains that Anne has already done the necessary modifications to Sheffield Blue and Winchester Black to work with 1.5.5a as she has been email marketing offering to upgrade sites for current users of her templates - thousands of them - it begs the question why now is she reticent to make the upgrades available to the community where in the past she was doing so within weeks of new versions being released.

It makes it somewhat laughable when we are continually told to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade when the most critical 'front end' component is not upgraded.

cheers,
Mike

DrByte:

I think most of those templates have been updated for v155 in the last week ... so perhaps it's already been done for you?
Evidently I spoke out of turn.

She did indeed submit updates for Westminster New, and Winchester Responsive. But they're still in the queue for moderator review ... which usually happens on weekends nowadays.

I don't think she's reticent at all. I rather suspect she'd do them immediately if you contacted her to upgrade them for hire. If they're as simple to update as you seem to think then it shouldn't be more than a few coins out of your pocket, right?
Plus, you've used her free template to make profit. Why not pay her a little to upgrade it, and then make that upgrade available for free so others can benefit like you did initially?
Instead of soapboxing, be part of the solution instead of just yelling about your problem.

DrByte:

Doc, with respect, I think it is Zen Cart's problem - if I wanted to, or was in a position to, pay for templates or any other plugins I would likely not be using OS. If the community is based on cop it sweet and don't upset anyone then how would it grow? Yes it is 2016 and as much as ZC is 'free', or partially free, it still has a 'club' mentality with those in the club PM'ing each other with solutions to upgrades instead of publishing the solutions in the forums so that the 'community' benefits - and then when you see that and PM that person with a solution you are ignored, because you are not in the 'contributors club'. The full solution, not partial as appears in the thread, for making Sheffield Blue work in 1.5.5a was developed and mentioned in the thread but not posted ... and there is more history to this however I had better jump off my soapbox.

There are two versions of Zen Cart, one for those in the club and one for the rest when it comes to some things, some of which are very important, and non-contributors are often chastised.

So maybe the contributors and the gifted coders/developers should be the ones to post their solutions to the community rather than we excluded ones paying for a solution that already exists but is not shared

I know you do a lot to keep things running smoothly but Doc you don't see or read all the threads, in detail that is, and that is totally understandable. So maybe you are not seeing the issues in a general sense (like last response by Anne in Sheffield Blue Support thread was 13 Oct, responding to question re adding video to home page - the previous response to anything was 30 August and virtually all the posts in the forum since that date till now have been about issues with the template working with 1.5.5a. Anne has the solution however prefers to profit from it which is her right but ignoring posters is not on, at least say sorry, pay for it, not ignore. I and others have been spanked for posting a query in a thread other than the designated support thread even when the post in that thread has been ignored - so what are we to do, just cop it sweet? Some of the posts in the thread "Why I am Quitting Zen Cart" make interesting reading as you no doubt know, most of it was good constructive criticism and some good ideas posted - it was the 'rebellion' post that the name implied however it was hard hitting opinion, not 'whinging', offered in an effort to catch the eye of admin.

By the way, after trying a couple of 'fixes' in the forum that didn't work for me, (for me) I did get a quote from Anne to upgrade to 1.55a with upgraded template and with my plugins loaded - i.e. a working site - at over $500 per site for 6 sites I declined.

Thanks again for sorting out the Super Data thing for me.

cheers,
Mike

Well ... clearly that's your perception, and I'm sorry that others have treated you that way, for whatever reason. But it's not the truth.

You can see the one version of Zen Cart, freely available for all to access, use, download, and even contribute to, at: www.github.com/zencart/zencart
The one source of truth.

No special code words. No secret clubs.

Re: Making v154 DIY/Picaflor-Azul templates work with v1.5.5

[Moderator hat on]

And, here we are again, with a thread gone completely off the rails because someone's basing their business off someone else's free contribution and insists that it's everyone else's responsibility to update the original contribution, for free, so that the person's business can profit, but not the contributor.

I hate closing threads, but sorry, based on past experience with discussions like this, this is the point where they turn nasty. Let's take a breather and get back to work.

Discussion thread now closed.
