Confused with Discount coupon and restrictions

I have read and read but not really sure I understand now

I would like to offer £5 off for 1 item when its bought in conjunction with another item - to do this I added a £50 minimum spend limit

Discount coupon says:
Coupon Zone Restriction: 0
Coupon Name 2016-5
Coupon Description (Customer can see) £5 off Tee
Coupon Amount 5.0000
Coupon Minimum Order 50.0000
Free Shipping No Free Shipping
Coupon Code S20165
Uses per Coupon 100
Uses per Customer 1
Start Date 31/03/2016
End Date 03/04/2016

then I select in restrictions the single product that I want people to buy

However that only seems to imply that you can buy anything up to £50 and get that discount

It does not deny anything...

So I think did DENY ALL top category

and then the minimum order isn't reached as the item is £16 and we would like them to spend over £50 by buying something else

and then I read that the £ minimum order is actually based upon the price of the item not total of the order so the fact that I have allow this 1 item because its £16 and not over £50 that never works

so if I then add in the other product that is £45 to the allow list - it then means that they can buy 2 of these items and not the item we want them to buy and still get the discount

So truly confused - sorry

I want them to buy

product X at £45
product Y at £16
and get £5 off

I do not want any other combinations to work

How would I go about setting this up

thank you we already use bettertogether plugin - but this is something that the clients want to be able to do and coupons I thought well I thought this is what they were used for - maybe this means I am wrong :)

I don't think I would want that though

I just thought that the "minimum spend" in the coupon meant total spend -but doesn't seem to be that way, also thought that restrictions meant you could only use it when that items had been bought - but that also not the case

so only confused as to what you can do!

I will keep trying variations to try to figure it out
