fedex shipping stop heavy items from being split

We sell some large items that weigh hundreds of pounds. Is there a way to keep the numinix fedex module v1.5.2 from splitting an item into multiple boxes?

What are your settings in admin > config > Shipping/Packaging > Enter the Maximum Package Weight you will ship
ZenCart uses this number to decide when to split to another package

We have this set to 70 pounds as that is the maximum we typically put into a box. Seems like there should be two different criteria: maximum box weight, and maximum weight to allow shipping by that method. The UPS module seems to handle this correctly (doesn't give the option if an item exceeds the maximum weight).
