One-Page Checkout [Support Thread]

Yes, this is a common address format in Europe where you don't use the state as the information is already in the postal code.

If you want it anyway, you can use format 12.

I made the changes that lat9 suggested but for some reason I am getting the same results. Am I misunderstanding something here?

Also for example if someone picks the netherlands then the State/Province is required. But your saying its in the postal code. Can you explain. (not sure what format 12 is)

In Admin->Locations->Countries, edit Netherland and change address format from 5 to 12. It should add the state field in the address. These format are defined in the database table address_format. There are predefined setting that you can change or add a new one and set any country to use it.

After this change, if you still don't see the state in the address, there might be an issue with OPC.

About the postal code, there are some numbers or letters representing the state. For exemple in France, the first 2 numbers in the postal code design the state like 75 for Paris (Ile de France), 69 for Rhone. Writing both just double the information which is why the state is not required in a standard address.

Now that I have a better understanding of how Zen Cart's address formats work, I have a much clearer picture of what was happening.

For example, when a country uses Address Format 5, the customer can enter a State/Province, but that information will not appear in the formatted address because the format doesn't include that field.

However, if the country uses Address Format 12, the State/Province information will be displayed.

So the issue wasn't necessarily that Zen Cart or OPC wasn't saving the information correctly. It was simply how the selected address format was configured to display it.

What I did so there are no issues

Set Minimum Length of State to 0: This allows customers in countries that do not require a State/Province to leave the field blank.

State/Province Dropdown: When a customer selects the United States or another country with predefined states or provinces in Zen Cart, a dropdown menu automatically appears. OPC then requires the customer to select a valid state or province before proceeding with checkout.

**note I have not encountered an issues after the new update version 2.7.1

Re: One-Page Checkout [Support Thread]

In ZC, address formats by countries are used to display customers addresses, but forms to register those do not us these formats.

You have to be carefull that the form requirements are not too loose that information required in some countries addresses would not be registered.

An obyious example would be to not require postal code in account registering.

Just to clarify, if I set Minimum Length of State to 2, Zen Cart will require customers to enter a State/Province, even in countries like the Netherlands where that information isn't normally required for postal delivery.

With the setting at 0, I've confirmed that countries with predefined state/province dropdowns still require customers to make a valid selection.

Given these two scenarios, what would you recommend as the safest and most practical setting for international checkout?

I just want to make sure I get a better understanding before i implement it into my zencart stores?

You understand well! Personally I prefer to let the state required (min length to 2) for everyone. If you want to be easy on your customers, then your setting is best.

I have another solution that is nice for customers too, the Postcode auto fill plugin that autofill the state field and partially the street field (if data are available) when a customer enter his postal code. But you need a database of all the postal codes for the country you target. Nehtherland is not actually in the data provided with the plugin. But if you build or find a free to use database, I would be happy to add it.

Sorry, forget about that, the actual version of Postcode Auto Fill is not compatible with OPC, more specifically the guest checkout and address edit during checkout.

Re: One-Page Checkout [Support Thread]

With latest GitHub versions of ZC v3.0.0-dev, ZCA Bootstrap Template 3.8.1 and OPC, I am unable to use Guest Checkout.

There is no other plugin installed and I changed OPC settings to use Guest Checkout without email check.

I add an item in the cart then ckick Checkout button, then Guest Checkout and I get redirected to the login page with this message:
