Quote for shipping

Hi.
ZC 1.5.4
Looking for quote for shipping solution.
Meaning I can not give an automated shipping prices to the customers so I want the customer to collect
the products in their cart, fill in their email and city/country and send a request for delivery.
Then when I have all details I could calculate the delivery price and hopefully add it to their cart
and send them an email that their cart is ready to proceedd to checkout with the delivery price.
Is there a ready module for this?

Re: Quote for shipping

For making things more clearer - I mean that in the same page that the shipping estimator
shows up - there will be two lines of email & city plus a 'request for shipping cost' button.
(shipping estimator will not be shown of course).

Like this it will save the customer the need to fill all his details before he really knows
all the costs.
On the other hand, when not 'loggin in' I could not add the shipping price to his order...
Any ideas?

Re: Quote for shipping

Sorry, I dont have a solution to your problem, but what you are seeking is really bad for sales. Most people would rather shop elsewhere rather than contact the merchant for shipping costs.
There are exceptions of course, such as if you are selling heavy machinery, but generally speaking, these days if the products can be shipped via a normal carrier, people expect to know the shipping costs while they are shopping.

Just my 2cents worth.

Cheers

Hi Rod,
Thanks for your msg.
I know what you're saying (writing) and I do have a big problem to send the products by post/courier
because these products cannot be turned upside down while transporting.
I do have a delivery solution for my area so I thought maybe to start entering all the cities and villages etc'
in my country into zen cart and accordingly to make a clause for each city/village if I can send the products or
not and accordingly the checkout process will be automated or not.
Is it a better idea?

Just noticed this thread as I was looking at trying to add products to a basket so the customer then can ask for confirmed prices.

I think there are plenty of businesses where it isn't easy to quote carriage, or even accurate pricing (and that IS with 'normal' carriers). Fine if you are dealing with a box of tissues or a CD or other such stuff, but if you want bespoke it is much trickier.

We have to quote individually for every single order..... We can have multiple products going to customers from multiple suppliers. We can't even give accurate sales pricing on the site ! I wish it was different, but.....

Fortunately it is the same pretty throughout our business so everyone is in the same boat and customers can't 'just go elsewhere'.

We have guide prices on our site but we need customers to be able to add them to a basket and then 'request quote' or 'request confirmed prices'

Any suggestions on that would be gratefully appreciated. !

Hi John
I solved it with RFQ module and after that I installed Shipping_By_Quote_2.3 module.
RFQ module was not good for me for the shipping quote section BUT it is good for the "payment" section.
As I understood, you must have some payment module in your cart and RFQ payment was the solution for me.
You can have a look at my site but beware....it is in Hebrew
By the way, you could see the modules working only after registration...
