My Host's Server is Down... What to do?!? (PimaHost)

Just a general question to see if others may have gone through this with their hosts:

My host, Pimahost has had it's server down for now 8 days. Through some research, it looks like they had problems after updating their OS. But with the server down, my website is obviously down. Like any business website, I can't afford to have my website down for a long time, especially now 8 days.

Pimahost has been fantastic so far and I would totally recommend them, but recently, they haven't responded to my support tickets or phone calls. All I am looking for is for any update or an estimate on how much longer it may be.

So with that said, what would you guys recommend? Stick it out and hope it goes back up? Switch hosts? Have a temporary fix? etc...

Thanks!

To me seems like business dependent and how prepared you are for making a change. If you have back ups of all of your files and database (which apparently are not accessible at this time because of their outage) and if any further delay is going to cause business trouble, then seems like an easy answer to go, and then decide if want to return or not.

Certainly would be good to know/be able to find out some sort of status or expectation of being back up, but personally would say that being back up is far better proof than a discussion of almost having it all worked out.

As far as a "related" occurrence, only thing I've come across is that at one point while PayPal and other networks were doing upgrades a site was unable to accept online payments for almost two weeks. The site wasn't the only one as others were reporting issues as well and they were not all on the same host either, so no change was made regarding hosts... but the site also routinely had low traffic even if at that point was one where it caused a bit of grief in processing orders that were manageable.

switching hosts is a pain.... but 8 days down is totally unacceptable....

according to their website:

"....Our uptime is beyond reproach. It exceeds 99.9 percent, year in and year out..."

according to my math, your server should now be up for the next 22 years....

It's incredibly unfortunate that you're having this trouble, particularly considering that they asked to be listed as a compatible host for Zen Cart. Naturally of course just because they're listed as a compatible host doesn't mean they're perfect, and doesn't mean disasters can't happen unexpectedly. Evidently there's not much info available about what's going on. :(

None of my contacts there are responding to inquiries either.

Do you have current backups of your site? If so, then you've got "options" (such as alternate hosts, or even temporary alternate servers). If you don't, then, well, your options are limited.

I've been informed that their server is back up and running.

You realize you are updating an 8 month old post...right?

To say they are "up and running" if after 8 months of being down, I don't think they would still be in business.

Hmmm ONLY down for 8 months :D

I don't feel so bad that one of my clients has been down for 10 days now...
