What is your opinion on open communication when paying someone?

Hello,
I was just wondering what the over all opinion is when you are paying someone to make a site for you and having open communication with that person? Should we have to beg for updates or do you keep your customers regularly updated?
Just a FYI ... this is not technically related to Zen and does not involve anyone in these forums. Just wanting a outside opinion.
Thanks

Re: What is your opinion on open communication when paying someone?

The only answer that you will get here is the one that make sense... the customer has to have a clear idea on what's going on, on the developing side. These usually should be underlined BEFORE starting the project, what are the milestones, the payment plan, when the developer is going to get in touch with you if there's no need for daily contact, etc.

Every project is different, some may take 2 hours, some others may take 2 months, some relay completely on feedback, some others don't need it so much; that's why it needs to be said before starting the job and money exchanges hands.
