Changing attribute price across multiple products

Hello,

It would be helpful if when creating values in the Option Value Manager a price/cost could be attached. That would eliminate the need to price the attribute across products that offer the same attribute. Also, if there was a need to change the price of an attribute across products they would not have to be done one-by-one.

Please do not assume that this feature will be welcome by all stores if this feature would be applied without a toggle option to disable the feature.

Steve, please create a SEPARATE request for cost tracking. Then I'll trim the first post and delete subsequent posts.
It's better to do one post per request. Bulk update is not controversial; adding cost information is.

Pardon my ignorance, but is that what I am referring to called-cost tracking? I am new to the jargon of web development suggestions etc. so please excuse. I would have thought that the 2 items I mentioned would co-exist in the same software package.

I don't think that is feasible as an option value is unrelated to any product...until a product has that value assigned.
But that value (colour:blue) could be on wildly different products so a common price would be completely wrong.
Updating of the option value price can only be done in the context of the product it is assigned to.
And similar products are only similar because you decide they are: there is no technical way to flag similar products as being in some sort of similar group, apart from their categories.
So, since product grouping cannot be determined by code, only by manual selection, or maybe per category, I think a manual import is the only possible solution.

I might visualize a t-shirt site where all XXL are $40 but, what about a hoodie vs a t-shirt? Would you have to have XXLT and XXLH?

I fear it would be a feature used by few.

But, being open source, you're free to come up with a mod for plugin.

Seeing that the option values manager has (or has it been removed?) an option to copy an attribute (including or excluding the associated data of the attribute) to other product that an expansion of that process would be to offer selectable aspects of the attribute to be copied over to whatever destination(s). Certainly there is as described the "limitations" of an attribute to its base product (hoodie versus t-shirt or sweatshirt though each such product type could be in its own category and linked to a common category or any other configuration). Regardless the method of applying some action, there are always things to be considered rather than blindly applying a change...

Personally, I'm not sure what was being referred to as cost tracking, what I see described is a request for the ability to set an aspect of a product's attribute and apply that aspect at any time to other similar product with the method of similarity to be "self" identified.

You could allow absolute value updates ($4.00) and percentage updates (+10%).

YEP, Or 100 different rings where the "RED" option is a different value for each ring. Setting (or Changing) the RED price to a fixed value or % change would be a nightmare.

Explaining in further detail my particular issue:
The company I work, canemasters.com, for sells custom designed walking/self-defense canes and wood products. There are 57 basic models with several of the options crossing most products. As such, if there is a price change on one of the "shared options" I currently have to change the price of that option individually on each product. Sure, it keeps me employed but it is a pain.

In my opinion, any business that has customizable base products could benefit to a way to change attribute pricing across products. Am I crazy in that thought process?

DBIO is very helpful in updating various database fields via Excel/csv upload. A simplified description... Edit all the price changes in a spreadsheet format, save as csv, upload csv and DONE

I think EP (easy populate) can perform a similar action

In our case, our option of Sterling ( and gold ) changes frequently, is different for nearly every product and we use DBIO to change hundreds/thousands of items with a customized csv upload.

I'm also looking for a similar solution that I currently use on Oscommerce: if someone could get it to work on Zencart it would be great.
How it works: You create an "attribute set" and associate it with the desired products. Once you have created this set, you can then vary the price or number of options at any time and to your liking in real time.

That looks like a very useful feature set and I can see how it would be really helpful for some people. There are people here that are very experienced with writing modules and could adapt that to zen cart for a fee. I would suggest posting in the commercial help wanted section although I really couldn't say if you would get a reply from there, I don't know how many developers are signed up for it.
