Plugins that work with V 1.5.7 ?
Hi
Would it be possible to have a new category in Plugins so that any plugins that are known to work with V1.5.7 and PHP 7 are listed?
Thanks

You can use that to search for a category and which versions of Zen Cart.
Selecting Admin Tools and selecting 1.5.7 and 1.5.6 will give you a list of candidates. As always---- Backup three times, test twice

i'm sorry, the search capabilities on this forum are not good, and your link is a perfect example. i go to that link and select 1.5.7, and then hit the search now button as part of the additional options, i get one dataset. that sort was based on relavance.
if i select to sort based on date, in descending order, only the 1.5.7 plugins, i get 1 result. it should be the same dataset. clearly it is not.
and the result is for a plugin that is only valid for 1.5.5.
i recommend testing recommendations. as that search facility does not work at all.. for me...
best.

Did you try the last line?
From the link, Select a Category then check 1.5.6 and 1.5.7.
Click on Search Now.
Adjust those trifocals.

the only thing changed was the sort results by.
that my friend is a bug. and while the support on this board is excellent; the vBulletin software used by this forum has lots of bugs. this one is plain as day to see. MO.

It could be that we have a bug in the custom code we added to combine the downloads data into search results. vB is a bear to customize.

Any step forward is an improvement. In one of my stumbles (that I can't recreate since), clicking on the New Plugins brought up a complete list of all those listing 1.5.7 in the version of the mod.
That was nice. I do notice that the method I "found" works well with the example I gave but, not so well with other categories.

Perhaps a topic like in the past:
Forum => Totally Off Topic => The Zen Pub => Mods that work with 1.3.5
When valide for the present Zen Cart version, the thread can be make sticky by the moderators.
Once two updates have passed, it could be made non-sticky.
Present day both v1.5.6 and v1.5.7 would be sticky. All others would be considered deprecated and non-sticky.
I suggest the writers of a plugin to be the persons to enter posts and links in such thread.
To keep an overview the thread should NOT have:
Those are for the support threads.
Just my two cents.

The best way to determine if a plugin works in your cart is to create a test copy of your cart, install the plugin and test.
Plugins which don't modify core files will often generally be fine.
Plugins which do modify core files may need merging and may need updating.
But you really won't know until you try.
Creating a thread for "works in the current release" "seems" like a good idea but it doesn't really work. It has been tried in the past.
Users won't search the thread, mod owners won't update it, and forum moderators have to spend time maintaining and pruning the thread.
And everyone's store is different when they've customized it or added other plugins that might conflict.

That might be the most important argument against said topic.
As admin of a totally unrelated forum, I have had to ask members to act their age in years instead of months.
It would nice towards other users to leave a message if one had success when using a modification on a more recent version not listed in the modification. Especially as this is a forum for freeware shop software. You get something so give something back. To say it with a famous quote: "Quid pro quo, Clarice!"

being a pedantic person, ZC is NOT freeware... it is free software that gives one the freedom to modify said software, and comes with a very specific license.
you can read about the difference here:

it is not freeware as defined there...

Thanks, learning to pay better attention to different meanings of words in other languages. It's needed to have a pedantic person once in a while to correct things. Otherwise we would end up not understanding each other while speaking in the same language.
But I feel that your correction about the terminology, makes my point about the value and importance of feedback stronger. Users should jump in to help one another, if only to just take some of the load off from the people who take the time and effort to make all the improvement and development of Zen Cart in every new version.
Let me take this opportunity to say thanks to those people.
