How to change currency depending upon IP address?

Hi,

After spending hours searching and reading many posts regarding this topic (which are now old and closed) I still have not found a solution to my problem.

Is there any way that my webshop can automatically show currency depending on country? I have 2 currencies in my Webshop.. Swissfrancs and Euro. My default currency is Euro. Swissfrancs obviously for swiss customers only and Euro for the remaining countries I deliver too.

I would like my swiss customers to see only swissfrancs and remaining customers only EURO as default.

I have found a currency mod but that is for older versions and I am not sure it actually hides the Euro from my swiss customers. Using the Switch To Default Language Currency doesn't work because both countries language is german!

I am currently running v1.5.6. We are going to update soon to the newest version, but this will be an issue even with a new version of ZC.

Does anyone know a solution to this issue?

You would need to integrate a geolocation service so you can detect an IP address and set currency based on detected country. You could use MaxMind with a free local database and then lookup your database, or integrate with their API and lookup the data on their servers in real time. The free version is accurate enough, but needs some work to integrate it. The paid version is $25 for 250.000 lookups (1 website visit = 1 lookup) and is much easier to integrate. Either way, you'll need to do the programming part because I don't think there's a ready-made solution (at least not to my knowledge).

Thank you for your reply. Ok, this does indeed sound complicated. It's a pity that this is not already a built in feature.

With the proliferation of VPN usage, I doubt you would see something like this in the core.

I can pick almost any locale with an inexpensive VPN and come at you as Australian while actually in Texas.

Yes, I understand this but there are shops that need this feature, regardless of customers who use VPN. I order from international shops that only show my countries currency, also other ecommerce software (eg. wooshop) has this features. I was just hoping that there was a way to do this with Zen Cart.

Like @balihr said, there is, you just have to write some software and purchase a license from some Geo IP company.
