Can't run installer: "Problems with Session support"

I've been running 1.5.8a with no issues. I downloaded and then uploaded all the files for 2.1.0 using FileZilla. Got the database ready for install. Renamed and edited configure files. I started the installer and got "Problems with Session support". I figured something went wrong with the FTP upload so I then used Core FTP and did it again. Same thing!!! PHP is 8.3. Any ideas?

Are you trying to upgrade or do a clean install?

Regardless, the server logs would be helpful. The location of those depends on your server config. Which host are you using? Or is this a localhost (XAMPP, MAMPP, etc)?

You or your hoster can compare the config/directives in the older version of PHP with the new version. I have seen it many times where it's available in cPanel but left at default config/directives which may have issues with other special configurations on the server.

I created a sub folder under the domain where my current store is live. There is nothing in the server error logs in the past month or more.

The message displayed on the screenshot you initially provided (problems with session support) is the root-cause of the failure, as also indicated in this portion of the log

Unfortunately, the zc_install processing is not one of my fortes. We'll need to wait for someone more knowledgeable to chime in.

Thanks for the info but that is not the case. No spaces or lines before "<?php" and there is no closing "?>".

So, I have another server with the same hosting company (HostMonster) on which I have a WordPress site. I uploaded 2.1.0 to a folder on that site and everything worked as it should (after upgrading PHP to 8.3). Can someone suggest what I might check on the server that doesn't work?
