Critical Plugin Search Problem: Is This Being Addressed?

Hi all,

I originally posted about this in my module's support forum, but I’m moving it here to open the discussion more broadly. There seems to be a persistent issue with the plugin search functionality on the Zen Cart website.

Specifically, the AbuseIPDB plugin isn’t appearing in the search results, even when using advanced search with the exact name. While the direct link to the listing works, it’s also unclear why a recent update I submitted last week isn’t showing.

From the replies I’ve received, it seems this issue is not new and affects other plugins as well. It’s been described as a long-standing problem with the plugin library, and some suggest using Google (site:zen-cart.com <search term>) as a workaround.

That said, relying on Google search instead of the website’s native functionality feels counterintuitive and could discourage new users from engaging with Zen Cart, especially if they assume a plugin simply doesn’t exist because it’s not searchable on the platform.

This seems like an easy issue to address and fix, so I’m wondering why it’s being allowed to persist. Is there still active support for the plugin section? If not, should users assume this functionality will remain broken indefinitely?

Could someone on the team provide insight into:

Whether this is a known issue?
If there are plans to address it?
Any interim solutions to improve the plugin search experience?
Improving this functionality would go a long way toward enhancing the usability and credibility of the platform.

This is particularly important for those upgrading from an older version to the latest version of Zen Cart, as they rely on plugins to maintain functionality and compatibility.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Thanks!

That’s fine, but it’s not showing you all the modules in the search results. For example, try searching for 'AbuseIPDB.' This module has been available since 2023. I recently submitted an update (compatible with Zen Cart 2.1.0), but it hasn’t been posted yet. Even the current version doesn’t appear in search results, no matter what options you select.

Here’s the direct link to the module, which works fine: AbuseIPDB Module

Yes this is a known issue. The workaround is using Google.
No I can't give you any more details or an estimate of when it will be fixed.

Everything seems to be working now, so I’m not sure if you or someone else resolved the issue, but it’s much appreciated! If it was fixed, I'm general interested in knowing what the issue was. Thanks again for getting it sorted out!

I kicked off a job to re-index the plugins data records. At first it didn't seem to make a difference, but perhaps it also needed to refresh cache.

Well, that solved the issue! It's working great now—besides searching, I can also select the ZC version, and all the modules are showing up which was not the case before. Perhaps this process should be set up as a monthly cron job, huge difference. Thank you!
