upgrading from 1.5.8a to 2.10

swguy:

Agreed - this looks odd. Please change to

define('DB_PREFIX', '');

No space - just one quote and then the next quote.

I did it in both, still not upgrade button

swguy:

If you open ledfourv_flow5 in phpMyAdmin, do you see "address_book" as the first table?

Yes , address_book is the first one with over 6,000 customers

At the top of the PHPMyAdminscreen, it's going to say "Server: " and then a string. What is that string?

Go into cPanel and click on Manage My Databases. (Older cpanel versions called this "MySQL Databases".)
Open a file on your desktop, and type a new password in.
Change the password for ledfourv_flow5 using copy and paste from the file above.
Update your configure.php files using copy and paste from the file above.

I did that and manually did a password that was at 78% (had to be above 65%) The same thing, no update button

I also went to the older configure.php from the site I want to keep the data from, and compared. It had the database and DB-user the same thing. I tried that. Still no update button.
When I first started with this hosting package it was Hostmonster and they sold out to Blue host. They both subscribe to the cPanel. Don't guess that would be a problem.

Re: upgrading from 1.5.8a to 2.10

What am I doing wrong? I started fresh with new 2.1.0 file and dir.
I started a new dir and called it Store. I created a new data base for this Store. I got the old data base from the 1.5.5e data base and imported it into the new data base (Store). I uploaded the ZC-2.1.0 to the dir Store. I added a configure.php (There was not one) to the includes dir and put the Store Data base name, user, and PW(pw was hand created) into the configure.php . I did not put a configure.php in the admin.

I went to a browser (Tried more than one) and I still do not get a upgrade or update button, only a clean install

How would you do this? What am I doing wrong?

On this test run I went ahead and went with clean install and it pulled the database name and user name into the ZC setup pages. The install process could read the configure.php file

Re: upgrading from 1.5.8a to 2.10

What you want to do is a database only update, dropping old Zencart but keeping the database. This is the best way to get a clean install for an update from a very old version of ZC.
The way you want to do it should work if you create the configure.php correctly.
Here is another flow, close but a little bit different that works each time:

  • First do a clean install of ZC v2.1.0 by creating a new folder (eventually a virtual host too), then create its new database. Copy all files from ZC v2.1.0 release to your new folder.
Proceed with the install script until the end. The credential you use/create for admin here are not important but the database ones are.
  • Now and only now, use phpMyAdmin to delete all tables in the database and import you old database.
  • Run the install script again and you should have the update option. The admin credentials to be used here are the ones from your old site.

You will still need to copy some files from your old ZC, like products images, Defines pages...

So this work around is, Install 2.1.0 with the Database that 2.1.0 creates, then delete all the tables and import old data base and run install script again?
Is that right? Use old sites Admin log in

The solution listed here is what I finely got to work by accident. Since nothing seemed to work I was in the data base via phpMyadmin seeing if I could convert my old data to show up in the new 2.1.0 and when I uploaded a file I got an Zantax error I tried the install one more time and there was the coveted UPDATE BUTTON and so I un-installed the whole database and put my old database file from1.5.5e and I hit the upgrade button and it loaded in about two minutes, and there was all my data.

I'm sure this will happen to others and I hope this helps.
