PAYPAL PAYMENT STANDARD

When a customer makes a payment with paypal payments standard and is asked to return to the merchant, upon returning to my zencart the customer receives a error that says session timed out and a invoice is not recorded and sent to the customer or to me the merchant. The last time it worked was on July 15 2023. Thanx Appricate the Help.

Standard is no longer recommended. You should upgrade to the REST API.

Are there any instructions on how to install this? It is not as straight forward as other ZenCart Plugins. What is the catalog folder and wha is the installer folder?

I just installed the 1.58 paypal rest module and unlike the old payal module, now a customer has to create a paypal account to place the order.

On the old paypal payment standard a customer was able to pay without creating a paypal account.

Do you know iof anyway around this issue of haveing to crate a paypal account?

A lot of people do not have a paypal account and do not want to creat a paypal account.

If you want a credit card gateway, you can use Square or Stripe or Authorize.

Unfortunately, one of the things that has changed in the newer forum is the notice that it's difficult for us to help you without your pertinent data.

Your ZC version, PHP version, and applied mods/plugins make it easier to be specific.

You mention 2023 as the last time it worked, but you joined in 2012. That means you could be using 1.5.1 through 1.5.8.

If 1.5.8, there's a better chance of getting things working. Before that, both payment gateways and ZC have made so many changes that your ROI would just not justify it.

Even with 1.5.8, your best investment is an upgrade to 2.2.2. You can do that as a database-only upgrade from 1.5.7+ and come out on top in no time.

2.2.2 has PayPal built in and works with all the changes made by shipping methods and payment processors.

My guess is that you are in a situation like having a much older car for work. You may find yourself having to fix a flat every morning before heading to work.

One thing I can say for sure is that you did not get 2.2.1 on your site using zc_install 😛 https://github.com/zencart/zencart/pull/7566

In 1.5.7, ZC started using plugins. They're designed to go in the zc_plugins directory of your site and should avoid "hitting" core files.

PayPal officially joined the zc_plugins with your version of ZC. It is first controlled in Admin > Modules > Plugin Manager, where you install it on your site.

Once installed, head over to Admin > Modules > Payment and edit the mod to meet your needs.

You don't specify exactly how PayPal isn't working. One of the occasional problems with the encapsulated PayPal is that folks drop their old PayPal rather than set it to retire. This can cause ZC to report a failure to act on older PayPal orders. You may need to log in to PayPal to handle orders not made with the new plugin. FYI, anything over 180 days can no longer be processed.

PayPalRestful 2.1.1 is an encapsulated plugin. It means all its files are separates from ZC core files and placed in a special folder zc_plugins.

Inside this folder there is one folder named with the plugin version in which there are three other folders:
admin folder that corresponds and reproduces architecture of ZC Your_Admin folder (or whatever you renamed it).
Same with catalog folder that corresponds to ZC includes folder.
And install folder corresponds to zc_install folder.

Like this, plugins files are always separated from ZC cores files and each version of the plugin although has its own folder. When adding an encapsulated plugin, you just have to copy the whole zc_plugins folder content, nothing to touch inside it.

Be careful with versions, there is although a non-encapsulated version 1.3.4 (standard module) of this plugin.

No, ZC install is for ZC, not for plugins.

@compserv, with ZC v2.1.0 you should use the plugin's v1.3.4 from the plugin section.

Now my problem is: If the customer does not click return to merchant after paying with paypal Zen Cart will not generate the invoice. This use to work without the customer having to return to merchant. Hope we can fix this.
