New Website Updates
New: Notifications, browser push, and @mentions
We've added a proper notifications system to the forum. Here's what's new and how to turn it on.
π The notification bell
There's a new bell icon in the header next to your avatar. It shows your unread count and a dropdown of your recent notifications β replies to threads you follow, @mentions, private messages, plugin release updates, and moderation actions on your own posts.
Click View all for the full history, with an unread filter and a way to clear old ones.
Multiple replies to the same thread coalesce into a single "12 replies" entry instead of flooding your list.
π² Browser push notifications
You can now get notifications as real OS-level pop-ups β even when the forum isn't open in a tab. This is opt-in and per-device.
To turn it on:
- Go to Profile β Settings
- Find the Browser Notifications section
- Click Enable, then allow the permission prompt from your browser
- Pick which categories you want pushed β everything defaults on once you opt in, and you can turn any of them back off individually
You can manage this separately on every device/browser you use, and revoke it from the same settings page at any time.
Heads up for iPhone/iPad users: Safari on iOS only supports push notifications for sites added to your Home Screen. If you're on iOS, add the forum to your Home Screen first, then enable notifications from there.
What you can be notified about
- Thread replies β new replies on threads you're subscribed to
- @mentions β someone typing
@yourusernamein a post - Private messages β a new message in your inbox
- Plugin releases β a new release from a plugin you follow
- Moderation β a moderator removing, rejecting, or moving one of your posts
Each of these can be controlled independently for email, browser push, and the notification bell β so if you only want @mentions as a push notification and everything else by email, that's a couple of clicks away in Profile β Settings.
Try @mentions
Type @ followed by a username anywhere in a post or reply, and that person gets notified. It only works for people who can actually see the thread, so it won't leak private discussions.
