Attributes with Limits
The Problem It Solves
Zen Cart allows customers to select multiple values from checkbox attributes, but it doesn't provide a built-in way to define how many selections are allowed within each attribute group.
For example, a store may offer a customizable package where customers must select at least 2 options, but no more than 5. Without additional functionality, there is no straightforward way to enforce those limits.
Attributes with Limits solves this by allowing store owners to configure minimum and maximum checkbox selections for individual products and attribute groups.
Customers receive immediate visual feedback as they make their selections, while server-side validation provides an additional layer of enforcement before the product is added to the cart.
Good to Know:
Why doesn’t an attribute group appear?
Only Checkbox-type option groups already assigned to the selected product are shown. Confirm the attribute type and its assignments in Zen Cart.
Can two products have different limits for the same option name?
Yes. Limits are stored by product ID and option/group ID.
What if the counter doesn’t appear?
Confirm the plugin version is active in Plugin Manager, a rule exists for the selected product/checkbox group, and the JavaScript loads on the product page. Refresh cached assets. The script recognizes Zen Cart checkbox inputs such as name="id[64][381]".
Does this change product pricing or attribute assignments?
No. The plugin’s purpose is to restrict the number of selected checkbox values, not their prices or existing product attribute definitions.
