Chemo's Ultimate URL's

kelvyn:

Well, I'm using 3.0.0b1 it without incident on Zen 1.3.7

If you check out this post, I've merged all the bugfixes into a bugfix update.

I don't understand why he wouldn't finish the job - he put in all the effort to get this far! Come back, Dreamscape! :)

I see your paypal verified logo on your site, so I assume you use Paypal.

I'm wondering if you have an issue that I found. If I did a test paypal IPN order with this mod on, everything just about works, except that when the customer is returned back to the site, the order # isn't correct. Now, the order shows up in the admin, and everything seems fine, but the order # isn't transferred to the final page.

Does this happen for you?

I hate to become an outspoken critic of this mod, but my sincere advice to you is to step away from Ultimate SEO URLs. In theory, I love SEO URLs, and will defend the option to choose them (whether or not they are thought to improve search engine rankings), despite the overwhelming disdain of them on this forum by some.

Back away from this mod, and keep possession of hours of your life that will otherwise be lost would you decide to install it. It's not ready. It's not worth it.

That being said, I have personally run 2.103 on a 1.3.7 cart with less issues than the new beta. It (2.103) has its issues as well, but at least Paypal works as advertised. If using 2.103, I would check to be sure that any changes in Zencart 1.3.7 are changed in any files in 2.103.

Well thanks for the information i hate to here that. Can you recommend anything else that works well here for zen cart I have no modules installed yet. They only thing i did was make mods to some of my files to make my meta keywords and description come up seperate when you analyze them for my home page.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

I have used Ultimate SEO since my site went live. I haven't had a problem with being indexed by google but I have noticed that some of my most valuable links from other sites are not showing up as being linked to my site and my page rank is horrible.

This may not be the problem of Ultimate SEO at all. I don't know.

My question is this though...after nearly ten months being live and running with Ultimate SEO would it be wise to do a fresh install of 1.3.7 WITHOUT the Ultimate SEO to see if it helps with my page rank or will that look to google like I am a completely new site and could it hurt my page rank even more?

I would think it would hurt more, since all the indexed pages with .html extensions would throw 404's. One option is to use BlessIsaCola's htaccess file a few pages back.. he basically reverses whats inside the htaccess for Ultimate SEO, so .html pages are forwarded to the correct zencart page. You could try creating a fresh install and use that htaccess to see if its redirecting properly.. your issue is the same one I've run into and I decided to stick through it until 3.0 is finished, or until i get extremely tired of it.. whichever comes first :)

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

adamdowney:

Thanks RXALEX that solves that issue, reading this am gonna have to test the site thoroughly and decide if i'm gonna run with this BETA version though...

With regards to the search engines if it's a new site and you use the mod there should be no danger of duplicate URLs. I suppose if an existing listed site uses this mod then the old URLs still load the same pages, that's where a problem may occur? Any other opinions on this?

Is there a way with the htaccess file to stop the original unoptimised URLS loading up?

This mod does not present any problem for search engine as long as you do a proper 301 Redirect.

It's important that you do a redirect if you want search engines to transfer/key your pagerank history. If you really don't care about your indexed/rank pages you can simply let the search engines get a 404 error in which case they will eventually drop the pages with the 404 error.

I'm in such a competitive internet market that I've really got to work for every hit I get. Every possible advantage I can find is extremely important.
I suspect I'm going to stick with it as well.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

Hi, having spent a great deal of time trying to make ultimate urls work and ploughing through the posts to find everyones ideas. Most of which are very plausible but do not seem to fix anything. I have to agree with those who - like me are very keen on the use of good urls - that this mod. is not ready and is more trouble than it is worth.

I am some what confused that, along with many other similar packages, ZC does not have this in it,s generic form?

It is widely accepted in the industry that good clean meaningfull urls are important for various reasons, so why not just get it right in the first place.

Everything else about ZC is great, and I congratulate those who put so much effort in to it.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

I see the latest open bug in the this mod's bug tracker was posted May 5th, re: logging in as existing customer with shared SSL. Since there are five bug reports on the tracker that have not been addressed since March 23, I sympathize with beta testers who are reluctant to install 3.0.0 beta1.

I'm running this mod with no problems on my hardware catalog, but that's just one environment. While it pales in comparison to the time and effort invested by Josh (aka Dreamscape), I have logged several hours finding and reporting beta bugs -- all of which Josh fixed with impressive speed and agility.

Saying so for the developer's consideration, I was (and still am) happy to beta test Ultimate SEO URLs. But for me this is not an academic exercise. Like so many others, I want and need to utilize a working production release in my stores. I sincerely hope Josh's absence from his own bug tracker these past several weeks comes from an abundance of high-paying contracts, and not from his loss of interest in Chemo's.

Dreamscape, if you're reading this, please let us know how you're faring these days.> Cycletrade:

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

kelvyn:

Exactly the same problem here.
The cure was to tick the box marked

Core: Default: Skip SSL
Skip transforming SSL urls

Having that box unticked (ie:rewriting secure URLS) also kills Worldpay payments, and probably other payment methods too. Will submit bug report.

I installed the SEO URLS 3.0.0 BETA 1 together with zen 1.3.7, also get the Moneybookers PAYMENT module with error .

By ticked the **Core: Default: Skip SSL **, it works FINE now.
al lthe setting is:

Ok, I understand what you are saying and I was even considering not using this, but now I am reconsidering using it since I belive that spiders will have a hard time finding all of my products.

Since I have 20,000 products isn't it a good idea to use this so that spiders can collect my info easier?

This is my problem some of my urls are very very big. They take up half the address bar and I am a bit concerned about that.

If I do install this will it actually help my site?

If you don't mind looking at my site you can see what I am going to be creating and I need very competitive things to keep me very high on the search engine list. It is www.orgazmictoys.com keep in mind that it is just under construction and I wan't to get it built all the way before I upload 20,000 products.

Thank you for responding to my first post.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

DrByte has informed me that we have a beta Ultimate SEO being written, and needs a guinea pig....... I am volounteering..... conditionally lol......

I have the newest version of Zen, and the old directions seem to be obsolete for this version.... the first code rewrite listed in the install set says to alter line 355, but for that php, it's less than 300 lines, and the code to replace does not seem to exist.

Be forewarned if you take me up on the offer, through the course of setting up my site, I have been helped several times, so I have significant code changes. You'll prob want me to email you code pages to check em out before we proceed. You peeps know a lot more about the code than I do, but i'm learning :smartalec:......

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

I was afraid of that. Since I'm not your boss or your physician, I won't tell you what to do. But I will voice my hope that you take as much time as you need to get your health back. Nothing is worth sacrificing your well-being.

That's more selfish than it sounds. If you're not well, you can't contribute any more of the innovative work you have shared with the Zen-Cart community thus far. So, whether speedy or slow, I wish you a complete recovery. :smile:> dreamscape:

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

I just want to let you know that this MOD worked with PHP 5 and mySQL 4.1.
GREAT JOB ON THIS MOD!!

I also have one question about the mod rewrite.

This is the way the urls are being created.
Bath+and+Soap+Favors-c-12.html

I want it them be created the way they were before
bath-and-soap-favors-c-12.html

How do I change it from "+" to "-"

I'm moving my site to another hosting service and I want to keep the same url format.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

As an extra precaution, I made this my zen_href_link function:

  function zen_href_link($page='',$parameters='',$connection='NONSSL',$add_session_id=true,$search_engine_safe=true,$static=false,$use_dir_ws_catalog=true){
    if(!$link=$GLOBALS['SeoUrl']->buildHrefLink($page,$parameters,$connection,$add_session_id,$static,$use_dir_ws_catalog))
      return zen_href_link_stock($page,$parameters,$connection,$add_session_id,$search_engine_safe,$static,$use_dir_ws_catalog);
    else
      return $link;
  }

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

ok ive tried installing this on a v1.3.6 templated site and a stock v1.3.7 site and I just cannot get it to work.

If anyone is willing to help me out I can give you $100USD upon a successful install.

It seems to always install but when I go to admin to activate it it has the error

Fatal error: Class coreadvancedsearchresultseourlplugin: Cannot inherit from undefined class coreadvancedsearchseourlplugin in /home/xxx/public_html/includes/classes/seo/seo.url_plugins/core/advanced_search_result.php on line 14

this error is similar on both v1.3.6 and the v1.3.7 install using the 3.0 beta 1 they are both on seperate servers so I must be doing something wrong :(

Hey bud, are you trying the newest version of Ultimate SEO URLs? I reckon the newest version is 3.0.1 BETA. Be sure that you're using that one, and not the previous 2x version of the plug-in.

Here's a URL where the newest official BETA version is hosted: http://www.smarterwebdev.com/pub/zencart/seo_urls/
Here's a post that has an attachment of an unofficial BETA version: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=350263&postcount=693

Note that the date on the first link is 03/01/2007, and the date on the second link is 03/29/2007. The second one is newer, but it's unofficial. Personally, that's the one that I use. It seems to work just fine. I also implemented that bit of code from my previous post.
