Chemo's Ultimate URL's

blag:

Sorry, but I have to report that Version 3.0.0-beta 1 IS compatible with php5. My store runs with php5 (but I am still running MySQL4), and the mod works just fine. See it for yourself here.

Just so you know the mod doesn't work just fine on your site. Add one of your product with attributes like color and size and then go into your shopping cart and mouse over the product name. You will see your url is messed up. Search engine will index the messed up url but when they come back it breaks.

Also, you PayPal Express returns a 404 error because you haven't applied the change that you need to which was posted on this thread.

There are issues relating to search that I can't test because your search is not working for me in IE 7.0

Again, I did not test for everything that I know is wrong with this mod that has been documented on this thread. Just the quick ones to let you know it doesn't work fully on your site.

OUCH!

I guess that I have to retract my statement. BUT(and this is an importnat BUT) --- are the issues that you have listed related to PHP5, or are they fundamental to the mod itself?

They are bugs relating to the Mod. The mod works fine with any PHP version 4.0 and up. There are actually fixes for most of the problems on your site you just haven't applied the code changes to fix them.

I was going to do more test on your site but I see that you've temporarily disable ultimate seo url. BTW, your search now works in IE 7.0. You probably want to make sure you put a 301 redirect in your .htaccess for pages that may have been indexed by SEs (Assuming that they have rankings that you'd like to be pass around).

Not entirely sure what you mean by a 301 redirect - any guidance would be most appreciated.

I can't test in IR7.0, because I haven't yet been bold enough to try to the kludge/fix that allows IE6 and IE7 to be used separately on the same computer, so I can test in IE6.
BTW the search works fine as far as I can tell in Firefox, even with the mod enabled.
I do also have quite a few other problems of which I am aware, but these are mainly due to me trying to trim the code by removing unwanted stuff.

You referred to 'fixes' for the problems with the SEO mod - I don't suppose you could be so kind help an old fella by pointing me in the right direction?

All the fixes that you need are already in this thread. Unfortunately, because I have abandoned this mod for a superior SEO url mod, I am not as interested to dig through these 100+ pages to find the link. If you pick up about page 55 of this thread you should see all that you need. The Paypal Express fix is somewhere on page 105 and forward.

This mod is not production ready but if you're keen on it, everything that you need to at least make it worthwhile (with the exception of two issues that there are currently no fixes for) are all in this thread you just have to spend the time to dig through.

I realized I spent more time here than the $89 it cost me to get a superior SEO Url that works flawlessly. I had great hopes for this mod and I was part of the people that contributed to get this project then. Unfortunately, all we have to show for it is a Beta version that the creator (Dreamscape) said only a stupid store owner will use it in production. Those are his words not mine.

A 301 Redirect is simply a way for you to tell the Search Engine that the address has permanently changed and moved to this new location. It's like a forwarding address on file with the postal service only in this case it's robots.

I posted all the codes needed for different scenarios and what you need in your .htaccess on this thread as well.

Nothing I have said in this post is new, they are all part of this thread which is why I am not providing much because there is really not much new, this thing has been discussed over and over, you just need about 10 hours to read all the post. The big question is how much are you worth an hour?

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

Blag, you can go to our site in my signature to see how the seo url we using works and it also handles duplicate urls very well which is another thing you should be concern with Ultimate SEO URL.

Disclaimer: I am in no way associated with the company that makes the SEO URL we are using on our site. I just hate people wasting their valueable time (and trust me I have been there). I spent more than 50 hours easily trying to Ultimate SEO URL to work and boy, how I wish I could have that time back

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

Blag, A little bit unrelated but at the very least you want to make sure you test your store/mods in different makes and versions of browsers that your customers will like use. We use Google Analytics which provides nice data about the browsers people are using to access our site. IF things work in IE 6.0/7.0 and FF 2.0 and up you've basically covered more than 95%. Opera, Safari, etc. are out there but you have to decide if it's cost justifiable to test for them. We don't because they don't amount to much on our site.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

Hi Everyone,
wooh, these thread is way too long..hehe
I just installed the this seo mod, but now I am having problems with the HTTPS links.
That is, https pages(account, checkout pages) return 404 (File Not Found) . But when SEO URL is disabled, the https pages (account, checkout pages) work just fine.

I have followed the instructions found here: http://www.dream-scape.com/pub/zencart/Ultimate_SEO_URLs/install.html

My Site has the following:
-Apache 2.0, PHP 5, Mysql 4.
-mod_rewrite is enabled
-Using private SSL
-HTTP_SERVER = http://www.mydomain.com
-HTTPS_SERVER = https://www.mydomain.com
-All files installed under this domain. (/home/<username>/public_html/)

-ENABLE_SSL = true

I'd really much appreciate it if you could point me to the right direction in fixing this.

Thanks!

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

blag:

Hi. As I said in my reply, it is not PHP5 that is the culprit, but I am unable to comment as to whether it is the combination of PHP5 and MySQL5 that is causing your problems, because I would need to transfer my files to a different server to be able to test this, with inevitable, unjustifiable, disruption.

Sorry to say that most problems with mods are due to problems with the installation. Sometimes FTP software doesn't upload every file and so on... Have you applied all the 'fixes/patches' to the uploads? If not, go back to about post 1201 or so in this thread, where you will find an attachment to a post by me. The attachment includes the 'patched/fixed' files for this mod.

Are you absolutely sure that you have followed the instructions in the PDF manual? Have you updated/modified you .htaccess file? and so on...

Blag, my zen store worked perfectly just before my hosting provider switched to PHP5. So file upload error is not the problem.

My SEO Urls has all the patches published in the bug tracker here: http://bugs.smarterwebdev.com/index.php

And yes, I followed step by step evrything in the pdf help document but as I said my store worked fine untill the PHP5 switch.

I agree that the problem may not be entirely connected with the plugin but it is a fact that with SEO Url disabled the store works fine.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

that what i was talking about at the begging when i had the problems like te others in running the SEO v3...

there is something wrong in the module preferences regarding the server-side options...

but v2.10 with zen 1.3.7 patches works so fine, you can check it on my store: https://www.alsousbros.com

and u can disable the SEO on the login , shopping cart and some other "problematic" area, so it will be going just fine...

best wishes

saher

Sorry, but I know that this IS a cop-out, but I've given up with this mod. there are just too many problems, and my time is better spent elsewhere. Please note that I am not alone in thinking that problems with the mod are not confined to the use of PHP5.
I am not (by any means) a code guru, and I'm sorry that I can't help more. Can you force your store to use PHP4 by putting a statement such as this

AddHandler application/x-httpd-php4 .php

in your .htaccess file?
(I have no idea whether this will work, of course, but my host has both php4 and php5 available on the server and to use php5 all I needed to do was add the same statement but with the '4' changed to a '5')

Yes, I am using this statement now, but I am afraid that in future when my hosting provider stops completely PHP4 support, then I will have to stop the plugin.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

hi all,

I have added some new pages, SEO URL is on. For every page it is working fine.
But at one page there are 3 forms, one is not submitting any value.

The method of this form is post, I have also checked using get. But both POST or GET variable dont get any value.

When after submitting the form in header of the page(same page it submit, I need get some posted value from different input box), it dont get any values.

is it for .htaccess file or SEO URL?

another information is that it some time it submits to http:// and sometimes to https://, but without this form every form is working. Even at this page rest are working which submits to other pages.

If anybody can help me or give me the clue I will be very benifited. This is my first post....:)

Thanks a lot all

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

I just installed this. I didn't like the way a hyphenated word looked in the url. White spaces change to hyphens and hyphens are removed.

I went into the the admin for the product and reworded it. The url that I disliked still works, as well as the new url.

I have cleaned my cache, restarted the computer and the local server. I can take out the .htacess and the page won't load, but if I put it back the faulty url will load again.

The above happens even when the Enable seo urls is set to false. I really don't understand about the RewriteEngine. I tried cutting out the rules and saving with rewrite on or off and everything is good until I put the entire .htaccess back.

Can anyone tell me what I am missing? I don't want a bunch of possible duplicate content because of respelling a product name.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

Somehow the address only requires the last few characters to work. you can cut the title of the product out and the page still works.

That is why the page would not go away, because it really did exist every time.

I still don't know why the seo link would work when it was turned off in the admin. Any Idea?

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

Just a dumb guess on my part, but could the SEO url work while the mod is turned off because your site still employs the same .htaccess? I believe there are two components to Chemo's: 1. the part that builds the search-engine-friendly url for every page, and
2. the .htaccess that parses those urls. So, even when the first part is turned off, the second part still does its job.

Maybe one of you more familiar with Chemo's can post some indication of whether my understanding of the mod is correct as described above ... ?> member:

I think that is probably exactly why. If I don't have the .htaccess turned on the offending links don't work. I guess if nothing actually points to these phantom addresses then google probably won't be able to find them.

I am trying to understand the php, css, etc by trial and error. I just break things until they work. I feel better now that I understand that the title (that shows up in the url) really has nothing to do with the link resolving.

I am now trying to find out what duplication of url, title and metatags is acceptable. Yesterday was one of those bad days. Some days everything new I try just works and some days they don't. Thanks for the help!

Hi,

Does anyone know how to uninstall Ultimate SEO URL. I am thinking to switch to Magic SEO URL. If someone can provide me with a detailed instruction, it will be greatly appreciated. If this has been previously discussed, can someone help me locate it? Thanks in advance.
