Remove category image?

I thought I had read something about this before, but now I can't find anything. I assigned an image to a category and now I'd rather it just have none. How can I take it off?

Re: Remove category image?

Type the word none in the category images "browse" box.

Re: Remove category image?

If you write 'none' in the Category Image browse box, you can't save the page because 'none' is an invalid file name for the browse input field and the 'save' button won't work.

Re: Remove category image?

There is an oddity with XP and Internet Explorer on the setting images to: none

It does not happen on Win2K nor in FireFox from what I have seen ...

Until this is re-written to work with the new quirks in IE, you might see if FireFox works for you on removing images with: none

Re: Remove category image?

Huh. I use Firefox exclusively, and I can't find a none: option at all (certainly I'd have spotted it and tried it if it had been there)... I wonder what's screwy?

Re: Remove category image?

No what they mean is to type 'none' in the browse box. I needed to do the same, and did this in IE6 and nothing happened. It worked in Firefox.

Re: Remove category image?

I also tried this for products:
none in IE6 didn't do anything - clicking on Save didn't even acknowledge an error
none in Firefox worked

Weird. I don't remember now, but I had switched to using IE on the Admin page because there was something that wouldn't work in FF but was in IE (it may be displaying ® correctly on the Admin page - not sure).

Just create a new category, and move everything over with like just one click. And than delete the other category, rename the one you just made.

Thats a way around it, if the :none: function does not work.

Cheers.

Re: Remove category image?

I found the fix!! What I did to remove a picture from a category was to browse for a picture:

C:\Documents and Settings\Download\purewater4u\images\dot_clear.gif

and then replaced "dot_clear.gif" with the word none

C:\Documents and Settings\Download\purewater4u\images\none

Click Save and the picture disappears. I'm using IE6 and just typing in the word none does not work.

Should work for everyone not using Firefox.

Excellent Purewater, that totally worked for me in IE.

Thanks!

Re: Remove category image?

This all works fine using Win IE but I do most of my design and administration from a Mac using Safari and in Safari there is no field to type in. Once you browse to a file the name appears but is not editable.

I did get rid of the picture using my PC but on the Mac I guess the answer is to create a new category and move everything over unless there is an other workaround for Mac.

Re: Remove category image?

You could for now, edit the categories table and just remove the filename in the categories_image field ...

There is a conflict with some browsers at the moment and the image name fields cannot accept the word: none

to empty the field for you ...

Re: Remove category image?

In the Images settings ... turn off:

Product Image - No Image Status
Use automatic No Image when none is added to product
0= off
1= On

If you do not use Category Images anywhere ... but you want the No Image for Products ... leave that on and use your templates and overrides to customize:

/includes/templates/templates_default/tpl_modules_category_icon_display.php

Copy to your templates and overrides directory:

/includes/templates/your_templates_dir/tpl_modules_category_icon_display.php

And remove the peice for the categories_image from there ...

Re: Remove category image?

Do you have an URL where you are getting these errors?

If you look in the categories table via phpMyAdmin ... what exactly do you see in the categories_image when you hit edit on a category that you believe there no image defined?

Re: Remove category image?

My site is https://www.planetebio.net

the mysql values I see are:
1- empty in the value box and a check mark in the NULL checkbox
OR
2 noting in the value box and anothing in the NULL checkbox

both these will result with the no image image
