Removing "Add to Cart" Quantity for Unique Products

My client is selling porcelain dolls and they are all one-of-a-kind so I can't have more than 1 of the same doll added to cart. So having the "Add to cart" quantity box is really useless.

So I need to take it off and be able to only use the "add to cart" button. When the doll is in the cart the "add to cart" button should disappear, so they can't add more than one of those dolls to the cart.

Also a problem will arise when INSIDE the cart and the quantity box is still there to change the quantity and update it. I need to be able to remove/disable that too.

Is there perhaps a mod or an actual setting in the Admin to do that? I've been looking all day.

Oh my god it was too easy. I just set the product maximum to 1. shakes head please disregard my previous post...

Ah, just noticed, one of the problems wasn't fixed by that though. When the product is already in the cart the "add to cart" button is still displayed. It does give you an error in the cart when you try to add it again, but is there a way to remove it, using the admin? Or would I have to go play around with the code for that?

The winner to the checkout gets the product ...

The product is not removed from inventory until the order is completed ...

I think I should paraphrase it, it was a bit confusing. I meant that if Quantity in Cart = 1 then don't display "add to cart" for the same product, for the same client. Does that make sense? I'm pretty sure that can be done through the code but I'd rather not touch it if it can be edited through admin.

Well ... what it does is if the customer tries to add another to the cart, it says no ...

The button is there, but they cannot increase the quantity on max 1

No, all of the products are one-of-a-kind.

There are quite a few switches in regard to how the shop works, but none based on turn off the Add to Cart based on "Cart content" ...

However, the same groovy switches that know to flip around based on settings involving stock or login etc. could have another tweak added in there for the give customer based on the existing code ...

While it would require a code change ... it may not quite be as bad as you think ... I just have to chew on this a bit as the buttons are smart ... and they do change based on conditions ...

I just have to think a bit on another condition that doesn't break everything else and totally destroy your shop ... :eek:

I think I got it! I mean it works, but I don't know if this will cause any problems in the future. Here's what I did:

In tpl_product_info_display.php

I just added the top "if" and got rid of the $display_qty from the second "if."

your code looks great but only works for the product details template.

i have a site where i list all my products with buy now buttons on one page

a multiple product listing template.

how do i change the buy now button once the item was placed in the cart.

i would either change it to the quantity # in cart like you did or even replace it with a simple button that says "product added to cart"
the point of changing it is obviously in the event the customer continues shopping he should not see the unique products that he has already placed in his cart still on the site.
