Customer enter additional information PER item

Cool new forums. :)

I have several clients that want to allow the customer to enter a brief note for a particular item (other than the notes section at the checkout).

For instance one client sells custom fragrances and would like to allow the client to specify how many drops of each fragrance they want.

Another sells color guard rifle accessories and needs the customer to tell him which brand of rifle they own so they can send the correct size straps.

It would be a small text input (50 characters or less) that would transfer to both the invoice and admin/orders section for processing.

Maybe as an attribute?? Any help or direction would be appreciated!

a text only atribute would be perfect for what your looking for

you will need to create a option name an option value, then apply it to the product in attribute manager.

these can all be found by browsing to admin-> catalog

yeesh, I saw that and got it confused with "read only" attributes. It works perfectly. Thanks Merlin!

I should learn that when I can't find something easily with a forum search it's probably some simple setting that will work and I'm too lazy to find it. :)
