Changing Weight from Pounds to Kilos

artycles:

In testing it, the items in the shopping cart add correctly to 44grams but on the checkout the postage is calculating it way to much, I'm wondering what I've missed. Any ideas?

TARE weight.

Cheers
Rod

Re: Changing Weight from Pounds to Kilos

Thanks Rod,
I'm not sure what you mean by the TARE weight, but I've found the solution
I changed all references to grams to Kgs and changed the setting in AustPost module to Kgs also plus then changed the weight of the items to a fraction of kgs eg
was 22grams now 0.022kgs. Seems to be fine now.

Thanks

Oh, ok, in that case I can confidently say that the TARE weight is/was your problem.

artycles:

but I've found the solution

You have found A solution, but not the solution.

In other words, you have done manually what the "kgs/gms" toggle does for you automatically. <grin>.

As I said, the TARE weight is/was (probably) the problem. The default setting is "3" (if I recall correctly), and if the Austpost setting is set to kgs, this '3' gets multiplied by 1000 in order to convert to the grams that are required by the servers. Result - parcel that should only weigh a few hundred grams ends up being calculated as a little over 3kgs.

It doesn't really matter which weight scale you actually use, just remember to keep all weights consistant. To 'properly' solve your problem, all you really needed to do was to change the tare weight from "3" to "0.003".

If most of your products are in grams, then that is what I would personally be using in my store.
Likewise, if most of the products weigh over 1kg, then it just make sense to use kgs rather than gms as your standard weight format.

Also think of your customers. Which would give them less cause to think ? 22gms or 0.022kgs.

Just my view.

Cheers
Rod

Re: Changing Weight from Pounds to Kilos

From the products table the products_weight field and from the products_attributes table the products_attributes_weight field are used all throughout the code and would not make an idea choice of fields to use ...

What is your ultimate goal that you are trying to accomplish?

Re: Changing Weight from Pounds to Kilos

What is the name of the table and the field that you added?

Where are you trying to display the data that is in this field ... "in the web" is a little too vague for me ...

Re: Changing Weight from Pounds to Kilos

ajah,
table: product attributes
feild:add a new feild call item_code

like attribute prce and weight,it shoud disply
eg:
plz choose the metress

  • double layer mettress($253)(itemcode).
    *thrible layer ($350)(itemcode)
    item code should be there.
i have tried to use weight feild without doing any changes ,just type item code inthe weight.but it wont display on the web until it starts with numeric.if i typed something like GHFH123 it will saved in the data base but not showing up.if i type the code 1FGHDGH132 it will shown up.by doing substr(1fgdhgfh12) its possible to display the correct code in the web.but the database and enetering value carrying numeric in front......

any idea
thanks for the quick responce.

Re: Changing Weight from Pounds to Kilos

Change in the file:
/includes/modules/attributes.php

around line 164 to read:

                    $products_options_display_price .= $price_onetime;
                    $products_options_display_price .= $products_options->fields['item_code'];

Re: Changing Weight from Pounds to Kilos

By item code, do you mean the products_id or the products_model or what?

Re: Changing Weight from Pounds to Kilos

It sounds like you want this on the Catalog for display about the Product and its Attribtues ... then in the Checkout ... and probably are going to want it in the Admin ...

The best way to manage that for the checkout is to add the field to the orders_products_attributes table so you have this reference in the Admin ...

Then, customize the catalog order class to gather this information and save this information ...

Then, customize the admin order class to allow you to display this information ...
