Help setting up USPS Module.

Be sure that you have phoned USPS and had them Activate your account, after you got your USPS Web Tools User ID ...

Check that you are on the Production server ...

You might even try:
Copy the USPS update to your server, again ...
REMOVE the USPS ...
INSTALL the USPS ...
Reconfigure it ...

If using Zones, turn them off for now and test it, as is ...

Check that your 5 digit US Zip code is entered correctly in the Shipping/Packaging ...

My account is activated and everything was working fine until this past week. I contacted USPS and they confirmed everything was in working order and should be working and that I should contact my cart host.

This is how my USPS Shipping Module is currently configured:

Enable USPS Shipping
True

Enter the USPS Web Tools User ID
XXXXXXXXXXX

Which server to use
production

Handling Fee
2.00

Tax Class
--none--

Tax Basis
Shipping

Shipping Zone
--none--

Sort Order
1

All Packages are Machinable
False

USPS Options
Display weight, Display transit time

Domestic Shipping Methods
EXPRESS, PRIORITY, FIRST CLASS, PARCEL

International Shipping Methods
Global Express, Global Express Non-Doc Rect, Global Express Non-Doc Non-Rect, Express Mail Int, Priority Mail International, Priority Mail Int Flat Rate Box, First-Class Mail Int

Debug Mode
Email

Also there are no duplicated Sort Orders.

I have already copied the USPS update file to my server (6 times), removed and installed the USPS and reconfigured it (too many times to count). I didn't think about the shipping/packaging setting, however when i checked those settings everything was correctly entered. Just to be on the save side, I repeated all the above steps and I'm still in floating dead in the water.

Thanks for your help this so far.......

Re: Help setting up USPS Module.

USPS won't ship 150 pounds so they won't give you a quote ...

Lower the Maximum and you will be able to get a quote from them ... I believe the limit is now at 70lbs ...

Re: Help setting up USPS Module.

NOTE: 70lbs is after adding the Tare weight so you need to adjust for that as well ...

Re: Help setting up USPS Module.

Ok. I adjusted the weights and set the max weight to 50lbs. Results remain unchanged.

Re: Help setting up USPS Module.

I have a problem with the USPS module. (If that isn't obvious since I am posting here!)

My problem is that the majority of the items that I ship are outside the sizes of 12x12x12. This means that if I go to USPS directly I need to input the dimensions. However nothing in Zen-Cart allows me to input the package dimensions, nor does the USPS module even look for this, all it looks for is weight.

As a result, my customers paying less for shipping than what I am actually charged. At that rate i will be out of business in .... oh .... say..... 3 months!

But seriously, has anyone got a work around for this? Thanks in advance.

Re: Help setting up USPS Module.

In the shipping/packaging module how does ZC determine the difference between small, medium and large packages? Does it have en effect on the package choice displayed in the shipping portion of the shopping cart?

I am currently using flat rate but want to go back to using the USPS module using calculated rates. Many of my items are lightweight and I was losing money because customers would choose the flat rate envelope but the merchandise wouldn't fit in that and I would have to use the flat rate box instead which of course costs more to ship.

How can I tell ZC to allow flat rate envelope up to 1lb and if the order is over 1lb not to offer the envelope but the flat rate box instead?

Re: Help setting up USPS Module.

You would need to customize the module where it is building the quotes and control it based on the weight in this section:

          $methods[] = array('id' => $type,
                             'title' => $title,
                             'cost' => ($cost + MODULE_SHIPPING_USPS_HANDLING) * $shipping_num_boxes);
