Replace sidebox with image on main page

I'm trying to replace the categories sidebox with an image (or CUSTOM sidebox) ONLY on the main page. It should display normally on all other pages.

Is there a way I can call the custom sidebox on the main page, with the normal one displaying everywhere else?

Can someone point me in the right direction? I've been following the trail through tpl_main_page.php, column_left.php, etc... but I can't figure out how difficult this will be. Anybody have a clue?
