Hi Kuroi-
Your 'Future Zen" CSS/images package is a fine educational tool which should help assist Zen Cart newbies understand how to create/adapt their own CSS based Zen Cart templates. Probably best to highlight that it is not a "complete" template set, per se. (ahh... now I see later in this thread you posted "This isn't intended to be a finished template, but rather a gentle nudge..."). So this means it should not be a considered a "plug & play" replacement for the stock templates bundled with Zen cart. Like you stated, just a starting point.
Since it is a learning tool it might be good to include a readme which documents the differences between the provided future-zen CSS and the stock template_default CSS.
A couple notes to those whom already have an existing 'custom' template and want to "play" with this package.
I. Be sure to copy the files over from the "custom" directories below (if you have them) to their respective "future-zen" directories (or whatever name you used for the new template. Yes you will have to create the "future-zen" directories whereever needed).
/includes/modules/custom/
/includes/modules/sideboxes/custom/
/includes/languages/custom/
/includes/languages/english/custom/
/includes/languages/english/html_includes/custom/
/includes/languages/english/extra_definitions/custom/
/includes/templates/custom/buttons/
/includes/templates/custom/common/
/includes/templates/custom/popup_image_additional/
/includes/templates/custom/sideboxes/
/includes/templates/custom/templates/
II. And you may want to copy files from:
/includes/templates/custom/css/
/includes/templates/custom/images/
Use care to not overwrite the CSS file and the images files provided by Kuroi in /includes/templates/future-zen (unless you are sure that is what you want to do).
You also may have other custom directories which you may need to copy over.
III. The header image (logo) is already rendered via /includes/templates/template_default/common/tpl_header.php.
So that the logo does not duplicate itself you will need to edit and save as /includes/templates/future-zen/common/tpl_header.php.
Comment out:
<div id="logo"><?php echo '<a href="' . HTTP_SERVER . DIR_WS_CATALOG . '">' . zen_image($template->get_template_dir(HEADER_LOGO_IMAGE, DIR_WS_TEMPLATE, $current_page_base,'images'). '/' . HEADER_LOGO_IMAGE, HEADER_ALT_TEXT) . '</a>'; ?></div>
Question in regards to the fixed size graphics...
Is it possible to provide the source vector files used to create the following sidebox and column and header images?
sidebox_top.gif
sidebox_middle.gif
sidebox_bottom.gif
title_bg.gif
centercolumn_capsule.gif
fullwidth_capsule.gif
header_bg.jpg
This would allow end-users to change the horizontal sizes, and fill, border and background colors, border thickness, etc (and also adjust colors outside of rounded corners to match background) without having to create the graphics from scratch.
I am unsure what would be the best standard file format used to distribute the vector outlines. Something open-source that can be imported into many vector based applications? (I use proprietary Photoshop CS and Illustrator CS).
Look forward to your "short tutorial on varaible width graphics".
