How to set up downloadable products?

Isn't there a way to have a FREE downloadable product where the shopper doesn't have to go thru checkout to get?
Not at the present time. If you care to write the code for that and share it with the community, I'm sure there would be a couple merchants who would be grateful.

Okay - so I thought I followed all the steps. I have the Option Name (Download) Option Value (PDF) then in the attribute controller I add the attribute (and file name) to the product. I get a green button.

But when I go to my site (it's under a test category - which I've turned off for now so that customers don't go there) this is what happens

1146 Table 'aboveal1_zc2.zen_products_with_attributes_stock' doesn't exist
in:
[select stock_id from zen_products_with_attributes_stock where products_id = '2053']

Ugh. I can't figure out what I need to do next. Go to product type and change something? go somewhere else? I'm going to keep looking - but if you know - let me know!
