Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

I'm struggling with this Rev 8d version too. The readme.html file purports to be for the "8d" version, but it soon reads "this new Rev 8c version" and "...BEFORE applying the new Image Handler2 for 1.3.x Rev 8c files to your store". Later we are told "...BEFORE you install the Rev 8c files..." and "If you followed these instructions to the letter, you are ready to begin using Image Handler2 for 1.3.x Rev 8c."

I thought I was about to install version 8d.

If you are applying a new version, surely the files included are ALL that version's - even if the majority of them are the same as the previous version. It makes it very hard to follow.

If we downloaded the "8c" version from overthehill.web, we don't need to upgrade except for a single file.

Well, OK. The "8d" version upgrades a single file from the "8c" version.

I am upgrading from "8b" to "8d", so it makes constant references to "8c" all the more confusing (except as history references).

The file and folder error references are in the Changelog:

(Rev 8b) The following files were deleted from the install package (they are now obsolete)
images/zoom.png
images/medium/zoom_MED.png
images/large/zoom_LRG.png
includes/template/default_template
includes/template/classic (if you are using the "Classic" template simply rename the YOUR_TEMPLATE folder as per the install instructions below)

The last two are folders, not files.

...and in the Upgrade instructions:

includes/template/classic

There is no folder /template/ as far as I can see.

Anyway, I had version 8b working well, but version "8d" (or "c" or whatever it thinks it is) has IH2 searching for large image files with an extension _LRG in the zencart/images/large/ folder. They aren't there.

Probably something stupid I have done, but the readme.html file doesn't exactly hold your hand.

nigelt74:

Um when i try to view one of the images created by imagehandler I get a 500 Server error

http://shopforcostumes.co.uk/bmz_cache/6/6a453343dd97fd554dd2fad682fc2768.image.100x104.jpg

That means something is configured wrong,
if the image is there it should show up
if the image isn't there it should be a 404 error,

what are the permissions on the folders set to?

You say images are being written to that folder, can you access them directly like the above

What size are your product images? the ones you uploaded, as in the filesize files over 1mb can cause issues

as there are "500" errors being generated, are there any debug files in the /cache folder on your site

Thanks Nigel - I "think" the issue was with the htaccess file.
If removed it worked.
I couldnt see anything wrong with the file. But read that this was meant to be a copy from the images folder.
So copied that across and hey presto.
Now the only difference between the 2 files is that the htacess file in the IH zip file has an additional line on line 33 where is says "Options - Indexes", the file I have now doesnt have this but is identical otherwise.
I'm hoping that it will now be okay and the absence of this one line isnt going to cause a major problem - at least it now looks to be working.

According to the readme file, you need both the .htacess and .keep files in the bmz_cache folder. I had to manually ftp them.

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

I uploaded the IH2, and followed the installation procedure, it did not show in the admin>Tools to complete the installation.
Do I need to upload the Imagemajick into my core website for IH2 to work?

Thanks for your help

Thanks for your help

if you uploaded all the fiels to the right place--including the ones in the admin folder then it should show up under tools in admin

take a look again to make sure they are there on your server

a link to your site would be helpful too

Removing the options directive won't be a big issue.. your hosting company apparently doesn't allow you to use OPTIONS in your .htaccess file. This directive an additional layer of protection, but there are a few hosting companies that do not allow it's use..

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

nigelt74:

Have you altered IH in anyway from the distributed package that is available on here (as i have never seen this error before, and can't work out what in that package would cause it)

Do you have any other alterations as it is NOT just the / at the end of the bmz_cache file that is missing, all the slashes are missing,
this is the generated url you show above

this is what it should be (notr the 2 slashes that are missing from the above)

you don't have any rewriting mods etc in your .htaccess

If i didn't know better, i'd say that some sort of stripslashes replacement was running on your link.

Can we get a link to the test version that doesn't have lightbox running on it (you did install lightbox after IH? as lightbox includes code to allow them to work together)

I too have this problem, and they told me that is not a problem but HI2 or htaccess file or configure file, you may have a problem with some php.ini configuration file with wrong

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

Any suggestions for what software to use to make some Watermarks for my pics.

If anyone knows of some decent shareware that will do the job, that would be even better.

GIMP is your best option when it comes to free image editing software.

Impressive, but more than I can use right now. It would take me way to long to learn how to use it. I bookmarked the page though....Thanks!!

I'm kind of running out of time and will probably have to pay someone to make a couple for me.

depending on what you want for your watermark---many just put their store name...mine--see link in signature is made by me

I could make some for you, pm me

they are not hard to make

So what folder should my pictures be loaded into?
/Large?
/images (root)?

I have mine going into the main store's images folder then a subfolder called promos whichis in turn subfoldered according to vendor...this has helped with similar naming and keeps them sorted by vendor for if something should happen or an image needs replacing.

just try to remember to add a - or _ in place of a space in the naming process of the images, IH2 will take care of the rest after you upload the main image, it will rename the additional ones accordingly

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

Serious:

So what folder should my pictures be loaded into?
/Large?
/images (root)? The "images" folder is the usual spot for product and category images in Zen Cart.. Meaning that however you decide to organize your images they must get loaded in the "images" folder. Avoid using spaces or special characters in your image names (all discussed in the IH2 README file). I prefer using alternating caps versus "-" (dashes) or "_" (underscores) in my files names where ever possible. For example: blueOrchidsLarge.png

After that it's up to YOU how you wish to organize your images..

So if you want to put all of your images into the "images" folder as so:
images/image.jpg

or

if you want to segregate your images into a sub-folder (organized any way YOU want) as so:
images/sub-folder/image.png

So if you decide that you will have one folder for each product category or one folder for each product those folders should go into your IMAGES folder..

BTW, if you decided to do something outside of the Zen Cart norms, IH2 doesn't really care how you organize your images because it will be looking for the image you explicitly linked to the product or category.. (In general this is usually in the "images" folder, but in theory with Zen Cart, the product and category images can be in ANY FOLDER within your site if you decide to set it up that way)

As has been repeated MANY TIMES in this support thread, you will upload your LARGEST image to your image folder and IH2 takes care of creating the medium and small images for you.

why??? am i not understanding this right...you are going to add the subfolder name to the image?

just have the subfolder in the images folder then name your image however you want image.jpg, roses.jpg then use it that way just make sure you tell ih2 what spot to plop it into

in the ih2 area just above where you hit to browse for your image is where you put the path to the folder

choose new file
main directory in drop down menu then write the path in the area under that -- like

promos/the name of the subfolder/
browse for the image
click save

it should put it into the subfolder you designate

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

I believe he is using Excel because he is using a module like EZ Populate or Apsona to upload his products and categories.. In these modules, I believe that you have to explicitly list the path to your product images if they are in a subfolder of the "images" folder.. (Otherwise you simply enter the name of the file and the modules "assumes" the file can be found inthe "images" folder)

He won't need to do ANYTHING in the IH2 admin if he already has uploaded his images and image folders.. Once he "installs" IH2, configures his image settings, FTPs his images, and then uploads his product and categories via EZ Populate, he's DONE...

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

Click here to see one of my products...

My question is, When you hover the attribute image comes up in a little white box... I was wondering is it possible to do so that when you hover the attribute 'large' image comes up? Just a small version, and if they want to enlarge, then click it as usual.

Here's a image example:
