SSL needed for PayPal / no SSL for cc ?

1. I have a cpanel host
2. Created a subdomain (secure.mydomain.com)
3. I bought a Static IP Address for $2 a month
4. I went to http://www.positivessl.com (I have no association to them)
5. Started to fill out the purchase form at say 4pm.
6. Created a private key in cpanel SSL Manager, then created a CSR in cpanel
7. pasted the CSR (encrypted text) into the form (5.)
8. received a email to my domain, clicked the validation link
9. received another email with 2 files attached.
10. back to cpanel, pasted my certificate, private key and bundle file (encrypted text) into the SSL Installer.Thanks for the mini-guide. It was very helpful.

yes txs andyase , thats the best quick info on ssl i've found. IE7's new 'reactive' warnings put the kybosh on any SSL that isn't yours (forget shared ssl) and isnt from a listed supplier, (yet again IE makes the web difficult) , agreed customers want to feel secure, problem is that IE is deciding what is and what is not secure and scaring people to boot.

looks like buying my own SSL cert is the eventual way to go...

meanwhile i'd like to punt customers straight thru to Paypal, let them enter personals thru paypal security. however i note the note that says 'cant get rid of the requirement for customers to enter personal details on zen cart' (or words to that effect) .

so can we look forward to new version that circumvents this need -- i.e. uses paypal shopping cart not zen cart ? or anyone coded a workaround?

Whether the customer understands the difference between a self-signed SSL or one that is purchased is irrelevant if the transaction is not converted.
