HTMLArea - formatting buttons not showing up in Admin

My HTMLArea has never worked, not from the very beginning of my ZenCart 1.2.6 installation.

By "not working" I mean: it doesn't appear at all, even though the Configuration - My Store - HTML Editor is set to HTMLarea, and it does appear in the dropdown, even as the default.

However, it does work as a standalone (the htmlarea\examples\core.html) so it's not my server or my browser or firewall settings. The problem exists on my PC from all my browsers (Firefox, Netscape, IE).

I receive a javascript error when I try to use it from the admin pages, reads slightly differently in each browser: in file catalog/htmlarea/htmlarea.js:
“HTMLArea.I18N.tooltips has no properties” or “HTMLArea.I18N.tooltips is null or not an object”

My setup:
Linux server
PHP version 4.4.1
Zencart version 1.2.6
Current HTMLarea from fresh download of Zencart 1.2.7
2 languages: cn-utf8 & en
Configuration – My Store – HTML Editor is set to “HTMLAREA”
“HTMLarea” does appear in the dropdown as the default

I have tried:

• a completely fresh upload of HTMLarea
• setting "en" as the default language
• checking my admin\includes\configure.php (as mentioned in some other posts)
• checking if I have an .htaccess file blocking access to htmlarea (I don’t)
• checking that I have the appropriate language files in htmlarea (I do)

Any other suggestions? Is the javascript error a key to my problem?

Sorry, ignore my previous post, as I've discovered the problem, which turned out to be pretty simple. The language was identified as "cn" in location setup and "cn-utf8" in the htmlarea language file, thereby creating a javascript error of an non existing HTMLarea toolkit.

Somehow this error in one language made HTMLarea not work in English either.

After I moved my cart up one level in the directory HTMLarea stopped showing buttons.

Following FAQ for renaming I changed configure.php files:

3. Your /includes/configure.php and /admin/includes/configure.php files are used to point Zen Cart to the right folders. In those files, you need to update several entries to match the new path information: * DIR_WS_CATALOG * DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG * DIR_FS_CATALOG * DIR_FS_SQL_CACHE * DIR_WS_ADMIN (in admin) * DIR_WS_HTTPS_ADMIN (in admin) * DIR_FS_ADMIN (in admin)

where I changed define('xxxx','/zencart/'); to define('xxxx','//'); 'htmlarea stopped working. when I changed to a single '/' it worked....

Nevermind. It turns out 1.3.0.1 is different from the v the Zencart book was based on. There is a dropdown for Text Editor that I compltely missed.

I must be missing it too. Where is it?

somewhere kind of on the right side of the screen, towards the top (but below all the header & navigation bars in the admin), assuming you are in a location where you will be needing a text editor, you should see a dropdown menu labeld "Text Editor" you should be able to select HTMLArea (presuming again, that you have HTMLArea enabled in Admin->Configuration->mystore

I finally found that dropdown in ez-pages, and enabling it there turned it on for the rest of the site. Odd.

Hi, i had the same problem from the start, it turned out to be the HTACCESS file in the htmlarea directory, i renamed it and the buttons appeard.
