currency set up problems with host...

I am very new to zen cart and have done some reading and searching and found that I have the exact same problem as in this post here

I want to add Australian dollars as a currency option and am getting the exact same error messages as in the above post. And it seems that my host (dreamhost) is the reason why also...

But what I am confused about in the above post is what the answer is... I would like to be able to have US and AUD as options so is there a way to get around my host limitations on this?
