adding a "New" image to a product image

Hi all,

I've searched and searched and can't seem to find an answer to this problem, my store has a lot of "New" products and I would like to display the product image with a "New.gif" in the lower right corner, but ONLY while the product is considered new, after the defined period for products to be displayed in the new products area, I don't want the new.gif to be displayed, first of all is there a way to display both the product image and a new.gif image in the same "box" and if so how would I code the new_products.php to display it?
