Selling software licences

Howdy! I have been looking around the forums here and searching Google for how to use serial numbers with zencart and only found coding solutions. I have already uploaded all the serials to the zencart db, I just don't feel like learning any php right now:smile: Is there a free addon that would do this for me?

Thanks!!

Re: Selling software licences

This is also a problem again and not a solution to a prior post.

My case is a little different.
The PINs are printed on real card.
So, it is still, not-downloadable.

The product name is: "Server Plan X", X as identifier.
For example, "Server Plan 120" might have several pins atached. And the customer buys one.

Any more information?

Re: Selling software licences

I'm not sure what you're trying to do. Do you want to sell serial numbers, or add them to products, or what ? A little more detail, please.

Re: Selling software licences

Can anyone tell me how to also include the licence in the order history? Delivered by email usually being delayed, so the buyer can check the order history to directly get the licence.

Thanks

It need some modification in the tpl_account_history_info_default.php file, but I do know how to do it. It should be simple if I knew Php :(.
It's a searching function plus display.

Re: Selling software licences

Just add a record to the orders_status_history table containing all the relevant components.

Re: Selling software licences

Hi everybody.
i'm trying to add this too. I made a quick admin database add that is working fine. I even added the possibility of adding multiple serials at once for one product.

Now what i don't understand is that when i change the order.php in the send_order_email function as advised here, i always get a blank page... actually if i only uncomment the print_r function (print_r($this->products);), i only get a blank page with what i choose to print on it, but that's it... nothing else... it does not get to the final page.

The only solution i found is to put the code at the end of the create_add_products function that is right above, but depending on where i put it, it seems to not do whatever is after the bit of code that i insert... and i'm afraid it could cause problems to my shop even if it seems to work fine.

Does anybody know why?

btw i'm using v 1.3.8

Re: Selling software licences

Drove me nuts too.

Here's my solution. It will send unique PINs in the order confirmation email. In my case EVERY item of EVERY order requires a unique PIN so every item ordered gets one. If you check your product code and only do this for ones that require PINs, you can limit to only products requiring PINs.

Add two new tables to your database.

Table 1 contains a binary # starting with the value 1.
Table 2 contains two columns. Column 1 is the list of PINs and column 2 is just the column number. I uploaded my PINs from an excel CSV file.

OK, then: edit this file:

/includes/classes/order.php

around line 875 there's an ADD MY CUSTOM DETAILS.

Here's my code:

 * 2. Add that data to the $this->products_ordered_attributes variable, using this sort of format:
 *      $this->products_ordered_attributes .=  {INSERT CUSTOM INFORMATION HERE};
 */

/* open the counter database, one row, one column initial value is 0 */

	$res1=mysql_select_db("COUNTER");

/* open the PIN database, in my case 10,000 rows, 2 columns, first column is TEXT where the PIN is, second is Integer containing row # */

	$res2=mysql_select_db("Coupons");

/* for every item in the order.... */

    for($itemcount=0; $itemcount< $this->products[$i]['qty']; $itemcount++)
       {

/* if you need to do PINs only sometimes, put in a check here and bail to the end of the loop if this order item doesn't need a PIN */

/* increment the counter to point to the next PIN */

 	$res=mysql_query("UPDATE COUNTER SET counter=counter+1 Where  1");

/*  get the pin  */

 	$res=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM Coupons WHERE record=  (SELECT * FROM COUNTER WHERE 1 LIMIT 1) LIMIT 1");
 	$res=mysql_fetch_row($res);
 	$res= $res[0];

/* put the PIN on a new line with text */

  	 $this->products_ordered_attributes .= "\nCoupon Code:  " . $res;
        }

/* done with this, bail from the database connection */

        mysql_close($res1);
        mysql_close($res2);

/* END: ADD MY CUSTOM DETAILS */

Re: Selling software licences

skipwater:

Take a look at this mod in the free software section Downloadable Product Licensing and Subscriptions Module
Its client_license_req.php module uses $_GET which exposes the username, password and other private information (it will be displayed in the browser's address bar). So, while the idea is great, the implementation is NOT secure.

Please correct if I am mistaken.
