Want to turn off Specials box in center

Just want Specials box to show up in the left hand column. This I have working BUT it is showing up also in the center column and I do not want it there.

I have looked through what seems to be everything possible to turn this off. Have turned off specials on index page and they still show up.

Please I am in a time crunch here and REALLY need help with this.

try going to admin/config/index listing and turn off show special products on main page.

sorry i overlooked the last part of your thread. you already tried what i said.
i know this is done in admin somewhere, i had the same problem i turned of the specials in the index listing and that worked for me. if i can remember what else i did i will post it

go to admin/layout box controller and for the specials turn off the single column status
