The developpers tool kit is your best friend for seeking words you are unable to track / find.
From your admin section, go to: Tools - > Developpers Tool Kit and type on the first textbox: "Welcome message". Then, on your right, make sure to switch from ' none ' to ' store '. :wink2:

Hi,
I'm trying to change the greeting to say Dear Firstname.
This is the first time I dwell into this and I am not a php expert :) so I need a little help.
original define
define('EMAIL_GREET_MR', 'Dear Mr. %s,' . "\n\n");
Is this the correct way to apply the change I am looking for?
define('EMAIL_GREET_MR', Dear $EMAIL_FIRST_NAME,' . "\n\n");
Thanks

It is doubtful this variable is being tracked from the language definition file you edited. Which is why, the '%s' was being used instead. :wink2:

that was the create_account.php language file I was trying to edit.
So where would I need to make this change?

In your includes/modules/create_account.php file,
find:
$email_text = sprintf(EMAIL_GREET_MR, $lastname);
} else {
$email_text = sprintf(EMAIL_GREET_MS, $lastname);
replace with:
$email_text = sprintf(EMAIL_GREET_MR, $firstname);
} else {
$email_text = sprintf(EMAIL_GREET_MS, $firstname);
and replace the original definition from your language file you edited earlier.
This should definitely resolve the issue. :thumbsup:

thanks so much!
is there a list of different variables that can be used in e-mails?
$firstname
$lastname
etc
etc

i guess i can just use that module to look up other variables

You can also use the create_account.php (def language file) to see all the definition names and use the Developpers tool Kit, under the admin section -> tools menu, to see where these definitions are coming from the source. :wink2:

one more thing,
I commented out the COUPON INCENTIVE HEADER from the language file but it still showed up in the welcome e-mail.
I just thought it would be easier for my client to manage that text through the coupon description itself.
I am using the template override system and i commented it out on my file. I just searched for the default COUPON INCENTIVE HEADER text and the only other file that shows it is /languages/english/create_account.php.
I am guessing I will need to comment that part out in that file as well. Or should I disable it in the module file?
Line #48 : define('EMAIL_COUPON_INCENTIVE_HEADER', 'To make your next visit to our online shop a more rewarding experience, listed below are details for a Discount Coupon created just for you!' . "\n\n");

If you wish to disable that line, do not comment it out nor delete it.
Simply change it to read as:
define('EMAIL_COUPON_INCENTIVE_HEADER', ' ');
This should do the trick. :thumbsup:

ah ok. i thought it would leave extra space where the line was supposed to be. thats why i opted to comment it out. hehe
thanks
