Zen Newbie & Attribute Angst

Hey True Believers,

I'm a long-time web developer, but new to Zen. Have got a storefront up and running but am now grappling with the ever-lovin' mountain that is Product Attributes.

Here's my conundrum:

My client is selling vitamins and supplements. Several of these have multiple pill/tablet counts, with different pricing for each. That said, the attribute Name will be the same for all of them:

Choose Number of Tablets

With the Attribute Options for the Name being different, depending on the supplement in question. On their previous cart solution, they were able to do this sort of thing:

Choose Number of Tablets

  • 60 tablets
  • 180 tablets ($35.99)

The first item is, obviously, the same as the base price, with the second item being more. Am assuming that in Zend, I'm going to have to display that price as something like (+$10.99) or whatnot, yes?

Is it actually possible to have the same Attribute Name with different Options depending on what product I'm talking about? How would this be accomplished?

As you can guess -- configuring this is a wee bit difficult to get my head around with the way this is currently set up in Zen.

Thanks,

Anthony

Re: Zen Newbie & Attribute Angst

hello

I tried this and couldnt come up with anything, wasnt important enough for me to post though so may be possible

if not I suggest you have the attribute names as

choose number of zinc tablets
choose number of vitamin E tablets
choose number of vitamin B tablets

etc

but then you'd have to have one for each product which could turn out to be a nightmare for a large store unless ajax attributes is working....thought I'd start you off with an idea though

Re: Zen Newbie & Attribute Angst

If the pricing for different sizes is going to be a consistent multiple, then just have
options for 180 pills, 360 pills, etc. each of which is priced at a multiple of the
base price (use Price Factor in the attributes controller).

Since the pricing for various sizes is going to differ (e.g. 180 of pill X is
1.8 times the price for 90, but 180 of pill Y is 1.7 times the price of 90, etc.)
you're probably better off to just do it by hand. Edit the description of each
product and put the price in there, and then modify the core file shopping_cart.php,
as described in my article

http://www.thatsoftwareguy.com/zencart_pricing_by_attributes.html

This is going to be a maintenance headache because you'll have to re-merge your
changes every time this file is re-released, but it will get you the result you seek.
