Be aware of the devil

AS some of us finally might have found out by now that on some computers banner ads does not show regardless of the browsers used. This is because of the Norton Antivisus blocking anything to do with the keywords such as 'banners' , 'Banners', my banners' , or just plain 'banner' .

as we also know that zen uses the word 'banners'

One way of fixing this is to rename the folder. It would be good idea either for zen to change the word banner to 'header-image' or similar or spam Norton with lots of banners ?

I know which option I would take :-)

zonealarm does similar blocking, but usually does it under these conditions:

• link contains an image which if clicked would take you to a "different" site
• image falls into typical banner-sized dimensions and is a clickable link

I don't think zonealarm looks for keywords like "banner", but I could be wrong.

I'll play devil's advocate here, but maybe some people don't want to see banner ads and that's why they try these things. I'm not entirely sure how hard we should be trying to circumvent people's personal preferences.

For example, I live in a rural area that until recently was only serviced by dial-up. I used to routinely turn off images in my browser, just to speed things up a bit when I was surfing news and forums sites. Occasionally I'd hit a site using flash banners. In some cases, there was absolutely no technical need for the ad to be flash (i.e. a conventional still image ad) and clearly flash was being used as a way to circumvent people who surf with images disabled. I usually never returned to those sites.
