Torn between OScommerce and Zen-Cart, Features available?

Hey Zen-Cart friends,

I'm going to start my website with an onlineshop and I'm not sure if OScommerce or Zen-Cart is the right thing, I tend to go with Zen-Cart. But it would a great help if someone can tell me if following features are available for Zen-Cart and where I get them or get more information about it. And maybe you can tell me significant advantages of Zen-Cart.

Affiliate
A feature or add-on that creates a special type of users - "partners". Partners can advertise my store by placing banner(s) on their websites and earn commissions by directing visitors to my site. I pay only a percentage or a flat rate to a partner when a sale is made. An add-on tracks and monitors the sales and commissions for my partners.

Configurator
A Configurator that simplifies the process of creating and tracking made-to-order products with many interchangeable or optional components. The module should allow defining compatibility rules (for example, AMD motherboard is compatible with Athlon processors but incompatible with Intel Pentium). An add-on for cross-selling products. Like https://www.dell.com or https://www.kudausa.com

Magnifier
A feature or add-on that allows showing my products from different points of view using attached images, so all essential details are easily exposed to my customers and website visitors.

Thanks in advance, I appriciate any help

Re: Torn between OScommerce and Zen-Cart, Features available?

I have both a zen and osc store
Zen has the an affiliate scheme built in osc you will have to add a contribution that will take a few hours to install.
Both have attributes which could do the next.
Zen has the last and osc doesnt and you will have to add a contribution.

My take on which to use is, if you want a lot of options at a click of a button then zen is probably for you. If you want to add these options one at a time possibly leading in a faster store then osc is for you.
Both are good for different reasons but zen is updated much more regularly than osc (one release every 3 years currently).

Good luck.

Re: Torn between OScommerce and Zen-Cart, Features available?

Hey Reesy,

sorry to bother you again, but where can I find the affiliate modul in the admin area? Or did I understand something wrong.

I also found some affiliate moduls on the internet, do you know any of these:

http://zencart-module.s-page.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3

http://www.idevdirect.com/

Thanks in advance, I appreciate your help

Re: Torn between OScommerce and Zen-Cart, Features available?

seville, your better off using the idev affiliate,
its a secondary program that hooks to zen but its much more feature rich.
Zen attributes rock and are only getting better in the future.

I am gonna get yelled at here but I dont trust a designer that says SO thats the users problem when it comes to security...

Re: Torn between OScommerce and Zen-Cart, Features available?

Just re-read your post and now it makes sense to me...I am afraid you may have to post something in the commercial section because what you're looking for doesn't exist currently.

I believe there are a few threads about options/features to do if you select Y with will give you possible option that goes with Y. So for example if you select Athlon, it will give you what goes with Athlon and so forth.

Re: Torn between OScommerce and Zen-Cart, Features available?

Sorry that I didn't make it clear by my last post, what I meant by configurator. Is there no kind of module like that  ? Does anybody else has an idea and can help me. I will also look on the commercial site. But I searched in Google everywhere, but didn't find anything, neither commercial or for free, what works as an configurator.

@Blessisaacola:

What you described with the Y is exactly what I need, but I didn't really find any threats. And by the way, your shopping website looks awesome, really good, i'm impressed.

Thanks again for any help

Re: Torn between OScommerce and Zen-Cart, Features available?

I already installed ZenCart and have everything what I needed now, except a configurator

Do you think it's worth it to change to CRE? I checked their website and it looked very interesting, thanks for the tip. But I think the feature I need is named Sub-Product Choices (Pro Only) and would cost me 100 Dollar additional.

If anyone has a solution for me, that would be great, if not, I might have to switch to CRE or something else :(

Thanks

Re: Torn between OScommerce and Zen-Cart, Features available?

remember that with CRE you get all the neat security holes and legacy code that zen cart moved away from......

but Zen cart will do everything you are looking for ( affiliate is a third party add on, look in recomended products ) but no there isnt a custom configurator.

However this can easily be done with attributes.

zenned,

Try contacting CRE for support, lol.....

Re: Torn between OScommerce and Zen-Cart, Features available?

Thank you Merlinpa1969,

I already found a affiliate module :) , which is pretty good and wasn't expensive, only 13 Dollars. You can find it on http://www.zencart-hosting.de

They also have several other modules for free. Its in German, but the affiliate program is also in englisch.

Because of the configurator, what do you mean by attributes, I'm a newbie and have no clue what you mean by that. Sorry.

I appreciate your help
