Setting 'qualities' of a product: Option/Attribute? Product Type?
Z. newbies unclear on the concept dept.>
I've been thrashing about & am very unsure if I'm going about this in the right way.
I have a whole group of items--dresses, which I want to add 'qualities' to, color, fabric, size, etc.
I have set up a category 'Clothing' w/ a sub-cat. 'Dresses'.
I'm using the word 'qualities' so that I don't confuse things by using a ZC term like 'attributes' in the wrong sense.
I want to have these qualities display on the store's product page for the individual items. I'd also like it to be easy for the dressmakers to select these qualities when they add or edit a product.
It seemed to me that the ZC idea was that these would be done with option names & values & so I went through the steps as in Ajeh's FAQ 'How do I add attributes to my products?'
But when I get to the 'Attributes Controller', all of the option values list together, whether fabric or color or size. Then even after selecting them they didn't show up on the page.
I myself find this page (Attributes Controller) fairly confusing & I know that in part it's 'cause I'm new to ZC, but I know these ladies would have a terrible time with it.
If I were doing this in develop-from-scratch approach as I've done before, I would have a separate table for each 'quality' & use a simple 'SELECT' query to generate a html select/option drop-down box for each as part of an add/edit an item interface page.
It's occured to me that maybe a 'Product Type' might come into play, but it looks like you still need to use options/attributes.
Can anyone can give me any clarity on how to go about this?
