Can I set up product quantities per attribute?

If I am selling an item that comes in four colours, and I have set the attributes so the customer can choose from, say, red, yellow, blue and green, is it possible to set up the product quantities to reflect the number of each colour I have in stock?

For example if I have just 1 blue product left and 20 green, if I set my product quantity to 21 then someone could add 5 blue products to their shopping basket, which I don't have.

If I set the product quantity to reflect the quantity of the colour I have the fewest of, then I might have to set the quantity to 1, when I actually have several in stock, hence losing out on sales.

Is there a solution to this?

Inventory by attribute is not a stock feature at this time- It is coming in the next major release. (v 1.4) There are some hacks posted on the forum, but I have not used any of them.

Lol - I have to admit I was excited to see the roadmap posted by Dr Byte but was hoping to see target release dates as well - at first I was super excited as I thought the blue text at the top of his post meant we would see a release of v1.4 on May 30 :D But I suspect it was text he ment to chop off as the "press release" was probably ment for review and for posting on May 30.... All my work has been done on v 1.3 in addition to trying v1.2.7 however I much prefer 1.3 both for the look and feel of the shop that I was able to establish and the use of ezpages. I hope the work is easily ported to 1.4 and a complete "redo" of everything is not required.

If you do look at the hacks, just as an FYI, I have not yet found a hack for v 1.3 though there are a couple for v 1.2.7
