with zone shipping rates can certain states be excluded?

Hi All

Trying to find a simple solution for this one (if possible hehe). Due to a complicated requirements I'm using zone rates for all the shipping options (have 3 zone modules running).

Does anyone know of a way, or can think of a way that I would be able to exclude a couple of states from a zone? Shipping to Hawaii and Alaska cost considerable more than our regular continental shipping does.

Ideally I'd like to be able to restrict anyone shiping to those 2 states from being able to choose from one specific zone rate.

If you change the number of zones in includes/modules/shipping/zones.php will this do the job? You can then set the extra zone for those two areas.

I don't think this will work, as the module uses the country name as zone (and the distinction), unless I'm missing something?

Could you not set up new country zones for these two areas so you could have:

US - United States (excl Hawaii, Alaska)
UH - United States (Hawaii)
UA - United States (Alaska)

codes for new areas may need to be different - I haven't checked if they are already used ;-)

I did this on a UK store for various GB regions and it worked well.

Hmm yes, if I don't have any other idea posts i may have to do that in the end .. but we're automated with our warehouse guys so that would cause chaos in the end as they won't know how to ship to UH or UA and I'd have to end up doing thre letter abbreviations to match them as well as 3 letter is used in some of our stuff :(

Has anyone else tried what I'm trying to do before in limiting to continental US with zonerates?

I think I may end up having to hack up the zonerates file, which I'd prefer not to do for future update purposes :D
