Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase

numinix:

I use the specials module and haven't had a problem. Do they specifically give you an example of a wrong price and it is one of your specials? If not, are you non-us, or your default currency is not USD?
If you read back, I had the same issue as a Canadian seller. The reason is that whenever your Zen Cart does a currency update, you need to also update google base immediately so that there is no discrepency between your shop price and Google. Setting cron jobs that work back to back is the solution.

As for the FTP, did you create your ftp account at google? I believ the link is located on the right side of the bulk upload page...

They gave me a specific link and it was to one of my items on special. I'm in the US so the currency isn't a factor either.

Yep, I created the ftp account at google and plugged the username and password into my admin.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

Hi everybody,
I have been searching and searching these forums and can't find anything about my particular problem regarding this contribution.

I uploaded this contribution following ALL of the directions supplied and went into the control panel and everything is there and seems to be working but when I go and try to upload my product feed all I get is a blank popup window with a snails pace status bar.

Nothing happens and nothing gets uploaded. Then if I use "NOTE: You may view Froogle Merchants FTP content." I get this popup window that says "Froogle Merchants FTP content:Connected to: uploads.google.comConnection failed: uploads.google.com".

I can manually upload the generated file through google but zencart refuses to do so.
Anyone else had this problem. Thank you. :)

I just came to the conclusion that GoDaddy will not let php executeables work from their servers. If anybody is having problems with this module and your hosted with GoDaddy you will never get this to work. As far as I know the only solution is to save your output file frooglt.txt and manually upload it to google base from their website.:schmoll:

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase

I still am not seeing my products on GoogleBase! I had uploaded them through admin several times now and nothing. It has been 4 days since my first one and I have uploaded again several times since that. Any ideas why they aren't showing up?
This is what my screen is after it uploads....I am noticing that it says no for feed, but I don't know what I need to do to fix this?

The ftp upload has been a problem for a while, if you read back through the thread you will see most people download it, then submit it manually.
A bit of a pain but it still means you don't have to type it out which takes forever.

Have you defined the feed upload name in Google?

Sorry. But GoDaddy will allow php executables to work.

I too was having the blank page problem and couldn't figure out what was happening. Others in this forum kept telling me the answer but it took me several attempts to work out the problem.

You MUST go to each file you uploaded to your server and CONFIRM that FULL executable permissions are granted. Without FULL permissions on each file you will only get a blank page staring back at you.

For whatever reason, when I upzipped the files they came with restricted permissions.

Once I confirmed that each googlefroogle.php file was full permissions I had no problem creating the upload file.

To take the next step you must have an ftp account set up with Google to receive your upload.

I hope that this helps save people a few steps. This kicked my backside for over a week before seeing the light.

CJ Internet Sales:

Nothing to do with how the files "come" By default ANY files you upload yo your server have the read permissions bit set. You have to manually change the permissions. Correct, there is nothing in the read me about this. But when you actually attempt to generate the feed you should observe a warning about this. This has been explained often in this thread :wink2:

I may be mistaken but I think the OP was referring to having troubles doing a web upload of the file (from his server to Google using the mod and then having it accepted by Google), not generating the feed file.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase

Woody,

I think the problem for me was that I was not even getting warning messages. The program would open a new window and show that it was working for an instant and then show me a blank page. The word "Done" would be in the lower left corner.

Now that I have the permissions to full permissions I am able to create the feed and then see the messages for the upload portion as well. No blank pages any longer.

I am not sure if this makes a difference but I am on a Linux server at GoDaddy.

Yes, I am having some upload issues, but I am seeing the error messages and I am working with GoDaddy to work through these. For now, I am not connecting to uploads.google.com via the GoogleFroogle tool. I can upload manually and have done so. I am only having connection issues at this point.

I TRULY appreciate the help you have provided. Without it my uploads would never have been created to begin with.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase

Ok I have a question about the way googlebase processes the upload file. What I have been doing (and yes it is a pain) is to use the mod to create a new file and then go in and delete all but the new products that I have added, so that the old products I already have listed on the site don't go back to Published....searchable soon status. I don't really want to take the products I already have on ther offline everytime I want to update my list on there. I am not changing anything on the old products and so far the only way around this I have found is to go in and manually delete the old products which means a line by line search of model numbers.

Is there an easier way to create an upload file that just contains the new products I just added?

You will find that even though Google base says your old item are not searchable they in fact are.
When I update mine it says all items are not searchable and it stays like that for about 12 hours but I am still getting plenty of hits from Google products.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase

Hi - I'm running into a problem installing this contribution. When I click to create my product feed, I get this error message:

HTTP Status 400 - You must provide a feed uri

type Status report

message You must provide a feed uri

description The request sent by the client was syntactically incorrect (You must provide a feed uri).

Apache Tomcat/5.0.28

I defined the settings in Config/GoogleFroogle config. I changed the permissions on the feeds to 775 and then 777. I tried searching for an answer to this but I'm coming up empty. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I'm using v1.3.7.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase

Alray10 - thanks again for the info but I have a google related question for you. I pulled up your site and noticed that you sold athletic shoes. My question is in regards to your choice to use google ads on your site that advertise other stores that sell converse shoes. Does this seem like a smart marketing move? Seriously though, do you make more from advertising other stores that sell the same products as you than you do from actually selling them? This is one of the very reasons I discounted ever using Google Ads on my site and I was wondering if there was something I didn't consider.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase

Another quick question I had about the way googlebase processes files. If I delete a bulk upload file from the fast growing list I have does that indeed delete the products themselves from googlebase?

I am thinking of removing google adsense myself I do keep putting sites on the ban list but as quick as I ban them another pops up.
I make very little out of adsense and it is hardly worth the time I spend putting them on the band list.
The only reason I leave them there is because even if google deny it I do find I get more hits from google if I have adsense on my site.

Your other question if you delete a bulk up load file yes the whole lot gets removed from googlebase.

Re: Froogle Merchant Center merged into GoogleBase

Couldn't you just set your ad box to display links in a new window? Then you'd generate profits from clicks and still retain the customer. Furthermore, the customer may see that your site has the better deal and will solidify the sale...
