is it possible to put "tab" images in the catagories tab.php so that anytime a new catagorie is created and used it will automatically have an image with it. i hope that makes sence.

I believe you can do this but have not had the opportunity or time to actually try it. You would need to set each tab into its own table cell with a tab image background. Now, depending on how you approach this, it could be 3 table cells per tab, or one.
If you used three table cells, your left and right corner images would be in the left and right corner and the center table cell would be a repeating background image. This would allow your tabs to expand and contract horizontally and flow with the text.
If you used one table cell your tabs would need to be fixed width and be no larger than the background image tab.
Mostly you could control this with css styles. If you are any good with css you could actually use ID styles to specify the width of your table cells and the images to insert. (The guy to speak to about CSS help is Korai).
Once you have the basic system working you could then expand it to use rollover tabs and javascript.
Hope this little bit of info gets you started. Please do let me know how you get on because I am interested in doing this myself - just have not found the time.
